Cathrin Baumbach

Program Director Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, Scotland, E. Europe

I was born and raised in Arnstadt, in East Germany. From a young age I was fascinated by foreign languages and cultures and received a BA in English translation from Leipzig University. During those college years, I spent my summers backpacking to Bulgaria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic.

When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, I immediately started catching up on travel to other parts of the world. I eventually moved to the United States in 1995, when I was offered a temporary job too good to be turned down at the Franklin Mint. There I met a wonderful Englishman, and the planned 18-month stay quickly turned into years.

In 2001 I found UnTours, joined the Swiss UnTour team, and finally migrated to the Central and Eastern Europe UnTours. I greatly enjoy the diversity of my responsibilities at UnTours, the company's values, my kind colleagues and the opportunity to connect with people from other cultures.

I love anything to do with the outdoors: picnicking, cross-country-skiing, swimming, hiking, biking, and kayaking. I am also a cat lover, gardener, classical music fan, and vegetarian hobby chef. I feel right at home in many destinations, but my heart belongs to Greece and its people, and Switzerland with its amazing mountains, lakes, and hiking trails. I enjoyed visiting Machu Picchu and dream of reopening the Berlin UnTour.
