Best of Tuscany: Making Wine and Friends on Anna's Farm

on Thu, 02/05/2015 - 09:14
Anna with her guests, Tuscany Untour

Tuscany is one of our most loved and most popular Untours for many reasons. While the scenery, the food and wine, the art and architecture, and the natural beauty all account for its special spot in our hearts, it is the people of Tuscany that make the most lasting impression. And one of my favorite people in Tuscany is Anna Ginotti, the owner of one of our host farms, where guests stay in her cozy renovated farmhouse apartments.

Anna is a people person as much as a wine person and enjoys her guests' enthusiasm about winemaking. "My guests very often ask about wine," she says. "They like to go along with us into the vineyards to walk and to see them during the different periods of the year. Very often during harvest, many guests come with us into the vineyard to cut grapes, and they are very happy!"

Barcelona: A High-Speed Tour

on Fri, 01/30/2015 - 09:04
Barcelona Untour

Of all the cities where we've set up Untours, perhaps none is as colorful and dynamic as Barcelona. This capital of Catalonia is a cradle of interesting and experimental architecture, a hotbed of foodie innovation, and an evolving city with a historic core and lots of new growth along its waterfront and elsewhere. Barcelona is a city on the move!

Check our this time lapse video. It captures the vibrant life and vivid beauty of Barcelona. (Though if you aren't a fan of techno, you may want to turn down the volume.) Enjoy!

Amazon River Cruise Adventure with G Adventures, Untours Marketplace

The Untours Marketplace has been an exciting way for us here at Untours to expand the destinations and experiences we can offer not only in Europe, but well beyond it! With our partners we are offering exciting new destinations like Peru!

G Adventures could not be a more worthy and wonderful partner. Their Planeterra Foundation funnels money to the communities where they offer travel, helping alleviate poverty, promote sustainability, and protect cultural heritage. We couldn't be more proud to work with them.

In this video you can learn a little about the Women's Weaving Cooperative they've

Gluhwein: Mull Your Wine for the Yuletide!

on Wed, 12/17/2014 - 09:44
Francy at the Untours holiday party

My favorite Untours holiday tradition is a sensory treat that Cathrin has brought to the mix from her native Germany. Gluhwein, or mulled wine, is a staple of German Christmas markets. She makes her own and sets the crockpot going around 10 a.m. on party day. By noon, the entire office smells of it, a warm spiced scent that clings to your clothing and softens your edges. The Gluhwein works its magic even before the first sip. Here's her super easy recipe!

Sue Baker, we'll miss you!

Sue on site in Italy

Our own Sue Baker is an outstanding colleague and person. She's worked for Untours for 15 years. Most of that time was spent on the Italian Team, where she helped direct our program expansion. Her research helped us map out our programs in the Amalfi Coast, Rome, and Florence. She is leaving us this winter. We are so sad to see her go and insist she is much too young to retire. We trust she'll fill her free time with more of what she loves: volunteering, cooking, golf, the beach, and being a grandma. Here we offer some parting words and memories...

We are excited about all of the offerings in the Untours Marketplace, particularly our river cruises. The rivers of Europe are access points to some of the continent's most beautiful villages and cities.

The Portraits of Southern France cruise we book for guests with Viking is especially intriguing. It offers a perfect introduction to Southern France. Take a peek at this wonderful video!
