When you head out on your next (or first, which, in that case, will definitely not be your last) vacation in Provence, after you make sure your bags are packed, your plane is on time, and all your cares in the world are placed neatly in the corner of your closet, remember to make reservations at one of L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue‘s greatest little restaurants, La Prévôté (roughly pronounced la pray-vo-tay).
Why La Prévôté in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue? That’s easy. Too easy.
For starters, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is just a great place to check out on its own. With its 15 (of an original 70!) mossy waterwheels that once powered the town’s silk, paper & flower industries, the source of the Sorgue River nearby at a place called Fontaine de Vaucluse, and hundreds of antique dealers to play with, “Isle” offers a bevy of beautiful things to see and do.
The Sorgue River plays a major part of life on L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, as it branches out into 5 arms before the town and then comes back into one river just outside of town. Most buildings on the Isle are either right on a branch of the Sorgue or a stone’s throw away. La Prévôté is no different. Along with the great food and wine that Provence is known for, one of the most delightful treats of dining here is that the Sorgue has a branch that literally goes under the restaurant, which at night is lit up so you can see the water running through a thick glass part in the floor.
