Leiden at night, Dutch Untour

No one does cozy quite like the Dutch do. One of my favorite trips to Holland was in winter, when I marvelled at the intrepid locals out biking through slush and snow. Edmond also happens to be an excellent photographer. Here are some of his gorgeous photos of a memorable stay on the slopes of Montalcino in Tuscany.

Mary heads our Rome Untour, working and living on the ground in Rome. Recently she took some time to fill us in on her hometown.

What do you love about living in Rome?

Apart from the very obvious art, architecture, history, food and wine, the climate definitely cannot be underestimated. All the seasons show the wonders of this magical city in different perspectives and shades, so it's never boring.

What are some of your hobbies and passions?

Growing my own vegetables is pretty high on the passion list. There is something so exhilarating about producing your own veggies year round.

Santa Caterina Market on a Barcelona Untour

Barcelona boasts the biggest network of municipal markets in Europe, with over 40 food markets and 6 non-food markets. The importance of the modern market in Barcelona dates back to the 19th century when the first covered markets were built. Since then, markets have come to be thought of as vital public spaces. Luggage and packing for Europe
Are you a packing ninja? Around the Untours office, we like to geek out about packing. We all have tips to share and oddball habits. But on the essentials of the all-important carry-on bag, we largely agree.

1. First things first: Are you checking a bag?

The less you pack, the better. If you can fit it all in a carry-on and a personal item, like a big purse or small backpack, we salute you. Pack a 3 ounce bottle of laundry soap (concentrate) and go for it! If not, read on...

2. You are what you wear

Before you pack your checked or carry-on bags, think about what you'll wear on the flight.

Untours host in Provence, Anne

Ahhhh, Provence. There's a reason why countless artists were inspired by this particular region in France, why it's a hotbed for some of the world's best food and wine, and why it is one of our most popular Untours. The quaint villages are picturesque, but so full of life and culture. The locals are friendly, chatty, and gladly invite you to live like a local for a few weeks. Need more convincing? We talked to our local Provence Untour staffer about what makes the region so unique and why it makes for the perfect Untour!

What do you love about living in Provence?

I love the light blue sky

Castle Hopping from Stirling

on Wed, 09/07/2016 - 11:39

Scotland is estimated to have in excess of 2,000 castles. Some are known only through historical records. Some are in a state of ruin. Some are intact stone structures but empty inside. Some are elegant dwellings still occupied. Some are museums filled with treasures. While castle hopping throughout Scotland may not be your primary focus during a stay in Stirling, you will likely want to visit a few in the immediate or not so immediate vicinity. Here are some good ones.

Stirling Castle

The most obvious one to visit is Stirling Castle.

What do you love about living in Prague?

I get to live in the city which all the world wants to see. Prague has everything: nice architecture of many styles, many gardens for relaxing,  galleries, cafes, and great views. Also, only half an hour by local transportation, the picturesque Czech countryside awaits.

What is something people don't know about Prague?

The city is rich with history and interesting facts! When you walk across the Charles Bridge, stop in the middle and look around on both sides. You'll be rewarded with a strange sight.
