Untours painting Nafplio

Nestled in the heart of Greece with easy access to the Peloponnese, Nafplio is one of the most scenic villages in Greece. Known for its vibrant pink flowers, striking blue water, and ancient castles, Nafplio is every artist’s dream. With easy day trips to the island of Hydra and ancient cities such as Mycenae, Corinth and Delphi, Nafplio allows tourists the access every visitor dreams of while living like a local in the village-like city.

Recent Untourist, Ginny Abblett, was captured by the beautiful surroundings of Nafplio, inspired to take paint to canvas. Below are some of her outstanding pieces that capture the feeling and beauty of Nafplio, Greece.

The Sippers' Forward Guard: Mary Ann's First Week in Provence

on Wed, 06/19/2013 - 07:46

It's Wednesday so we're with our guest bloggers, the  Sketchers in Provence.  Mary Ann Miller, the leader of this group has been there nearly a week.  Before she left, her friend Maggie, an artist who lives in Provence, and in who's home the group will be painting one afternoon sent this picture of her and her surroundings, to give the group a sense of what they were coming to!

Mary Ann wasted no time, going to Roussilon, one of the favorite destinations for painters because of its stunning red earth,  and working "en plein air"

She also stocked up on some of the "necessities of life" at

New Guest Bloggers: The Sketchers in Provence aka the Sippers!

on Wed, 06/05/2013 - 15:49

We're excited to have a new "guest voice" in our ongoing series of guest blogs.

About a year ago, Mary Ann Miller decided to take a group of artists to Provence.  She and her seven buddies leave next week! Well, to tell you the whole story, about a year ago, I, Marilee, convinced Mary Ann Miller to take a group of artists to go to Provence, and told her I would go with her. I proceeded to then back out, as several family obligations meant the stars just weren't aligning for me to go with them in June.

on Tue, 12/04/2012 - 11:30

Welcome to December....Potluck month on the Untours Blog! Instead of our normal practice of featuring one particular Untour Destination for the month, during the last month of 2012, we're going to skip around a bit, hoping to catch a few of the real stars of our Untour community that may have been missed.

Today, we'd like to feature Mary Ann Miller, one of our Untour artists.   Many of you are familiar with her work; you've seen on the Untours Cafe, and on the cover of our catalog a few years back.  Mary Ann has gone with us many times, (Tuscany, Umbria, Greece, Provence, Paris) often

Antoni Gaudi: learning to fly, because you can't afford the shoes

Gaudi, Barcelona, Sagrada Familia
A diagram of a  hyperboloidal vault, Gaudi's genius, La Sagrada Familia and other things in Barcelona way over our heads

Barcelona is a city unique in all the world for many reasons,  but it owes its celebrated singularity more to one man than any other single factor:  Antoni Gaudi.

While originally classed as a Modernist,  Gaudi is an architect of such singularity that,  most history books literally put him in a class all by himself.  Why?  Two answers.....the first, of course, is a visual answer.
