3. What is your favorite Untours memory?

As it has always been with our previous Untours (Switzerland Heartland twice and Andalusia, Spain), our favorite memory has not been seeing the "big-name" sights, but our interactions with local people. On this Untour, ONE of our favorite memories was "getting lost in Alsace" as our Untour staffer suggested. After visiting the Haut-Koenigsbourg Castle, we detoured (this is the lost part) on our way home through the little town of Kintzheim where we stopped for lunch at the Auberge Armories d'Alsace restaurant. The food was excellent and we were the only Americans there in the non-touristy town. This is why we do Untours—so we can experience what it's like to live in a country and not just pass through it.

3. What is your favorite Untours memory?

The dinner at the conclusion of the Paris Untour is probably the best meal we have ever had. We ate and talked until almost midnight. Then we strolled home by Notre Dame and pledged to come to Paris again. Such a magical trip.

Monday Memories: Etoile Park

on Mon, 10/28/2013 - 16:45
Some things never change!

The first time we saw Paris was in 1973. Eleanor was 29 and I was 28. Our hotel, Etoile Park, was on 10 Avenue MacMahon, just down the street from the Arc de Triomphe.

After 35 years we were finally able to travel back in time and walk in the footsteps of our youth.

Monday Memories: First Feather Down, Last Feather Down

Untourists Eleanor and Bill Kover share their story of their first European trip

This week's installment is our first from Untourists! Get a glimpse of this memory from Eleanor and Bill Kover.

Vienna, Austria. July 24, 1973.

It was our first trip to Europe, part of a two week "Freelance" tour that included London, Vienna, Rome and Paris. You had the choice of taking a bus tour of each city or going it on your own. It just took one bus ride to convince us that we are Untours people at heart.

Deb and Don Wise, Untourists of the Week

on Tue, 07/23/2013 - 10:31
Untourists visit the Louvre in Paris on a 3-week Untour Sampler including Paris, Rome and Florence

We like to have the ability to stand in front of a painting for as long as we want without keeping to a schedule. We like to see real neighborhoods and talk with local shopkeepers, etc.
