Best of the Peloponnese: Top 10 Sights of Nafplio and Classical Greece

The donkeys of Greece, Greek Untour

The Nafplio Untour in Greece is one of my favorites. It’s the perfect example of what our founder Hal Taussig had in mind when he came up with the Untour concept. The town is big enough to offer interesting museums and sights, a vibrant restaurant scene, lovely waterfront walks, two beaches and enchanting alleys. Yet it is small enough that you can rub shoulders with the locals and to get to know your corner bakery staff.

Another big asset is our fabulous local staff, Christos, who regularly gets rave reviews from clients.

Jane and Curtiss Conrad, Untourists of the Week: Let's Go Again

on Mon, 04/28/2014 - 09:16
Here are Jane and Curtiss!

Traveling with Untours provides us the opportunity to vacation on our time schedule and do our own thing. We enjoy living among the common people of Switzerland, grocery shopping in their stores, experiencing their culture, and being separated from fellow American tourists.

And the Unny winners are...

Untourist Ron Anderson captures a great vineyard shot from his Tuscany Untour

As you may know, we had the inaugural Unny Awards just recently. These awards are our way of recognizing the regions which have welcomed Untours all these years.

The Unnies are fun and lighthearted and that's how we like things around here.

We like to think of them as the Oscars® for Untours, though I admit we can't top the touching, heartfelt acceptance speech by Lupita Nyong'o last night.

Here come the Unny Awards!

Untours hosts the first annual Unny Awards, a celebration of the regions it serves

Since I started working here way back in 2011, the Untours regions have been calling on me to give them some attention. Actually, not just attention, but distinction.

Now, I know they are all big enough to speak for themselves. They don't need you to tell them they're great; we all already know that.

What they really need is for you tell them where they excel.

That's why today, a week before the Oscars®, we're introducing the Unny Awards—a way for you to help us celebrate our regions and give them the recognition they truly deserve.

The DeWoody Family, Untourists of the Week

on Tue, 10/29/2013 - 10:50

How is taking an Untour different from other ways of travelling?

We enjoy the freedom of traveling as a family (without a specified agenda, tour bus, etc) but we enjoy the comfort of knowing that there is someone at our destination that we can go to in case we have questions or encounter problems. The Untours staff does a wonderful job of giving you the information you need to take advantage of all of the opportunities each country offers its visitors while giving you the freedom to explore on your own terms.

Untourist of the Week: Edythe Salzman

on Tue, 06/18/2013 - 10:00

Edythe Salzmann and Jean Weisel take Untours with us nearly every year.  This week they share the spotlight together as Untourists of the Week.  We asked them for one picture.  They sent four, and they were all so good, we couldn't choose!  Don't they just look like the best of friends having the best of times? (Above: Edythe and Jean in Switzerland,  Below Left:  Edythe in Switzerland, Right: Edythe & Jean in Greece, Bottom: Edythe in Switzerland, again!

Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour and why you chose that particular destination?

Raymond Heald, Untours

1. Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.

It was a dream vacation: 8 days on the Variety Voyager, the sleek 73-passenger yacht that put us ashore at the fabled ports of Capri, Lipari, Malta, plus 4 ports in Sicily. Then, a train ride to the sparkling Cinque Terre for 4 nights and a heavenly 2 weeks in the fabulous Bonalumi apartment in Locarno, with a breathtaking view of Lake Maggiore.

Mary Ann Miller: Untourist of the Week and Untour Artist extraordinaire

on Tue, 12/04/2012 - 11:30

Welcome to December....Potluck month on the Untours Blog! Instead of our normal practice of featuring one particular Untour Destination for the month, during the last month of 2012, we're going to skip around a bit, hoping to catch a few of the real stars of our Untour community that may have been missed.

Today, we'd like to feature Mary Ann Miller, one of our Untour artists.   Many of you are familiar with her work; you've seen on the Untours Cafe, and on the cover of our catalog a few years back.  Mary Ann has gone with us many times, (Tuscany, Umbria, Greece, Provence, Paris) often

The Cultural Delights of Nafplio, Untours-Style

on Wed, 11/28/2012 - 11:54
Greece, Untours. Nafplio, culture, food

Along with this "Un-map"* of the cultural delights of Nafplio, here are excerpts from one of our more delighted Greek Untourists on the joys of eating in Nafplio, Kaye Norman.  To read more of her Nafplio adventures, click here.

from Kay Norman's Untours Cafe Blog: Nafplio Greece, October 2010

"The town of Nafplio - a wonderful home base for two weeks. Our apartment was about 2 blocks from the water, with shops and tavernas all around. The post office, bus station, internet cafe, small convenience store and market (2 days a week) are all places you will want to locate.
