Robert and Sheryl Parrish, Untourists of the Week

on Tue, 03/04/2014 - 10:17
Untourists Robert and Sheryl Parrish share their Untours memories

Untours traveling is different from other types of traveling in so many ways. As we have told friends and relatives to whom we have recommended Untours: with Untours, we can go at our own pace, see/visit the places we want to see, go back and visit them again if we wish, experience local living, discover our own favorite restaurants, shop for food locally and cook if we want, and if we want to do something special we can make those arrangements with advice from an Untours staff person. We also appreciate that we have a local Untours person to call if we need help or advice. The Untours orientation events have all been high quality, enjoyable, and educational. The on-site personnel have been on time and reliable in meeting our travel schedules.

And the Unny winners are...

Untourist Ron Anderson captures a great vineyard shot from his Tuscany Untour

As you may know, we had the inaugural Unny Awards just recently. These awards are our way of recognizing the regions which have welcomed Untours all these years.

The Unnies are fun and lighthearted and that's how we like things around here.

We like to think of them as the Oscars® for Untours, though I admit we can't top the touching, heartfelt acceptance speech by Lupita Nyong'o last night.

Here come the Unny Awards!

on Sun, 02/23/2014 - 16:03
Untours hosts the first annual Unny Awards, a celebration of the regions it serves

Since I started working here way back in 2011, the Untours regions have been calling on me to give them some attention. Actually, not just attention, but distinction.

Now, I know they are all big enough to speak for themselves. They don't need you to tell them they're great; we all already know that.

What they really need is for you tell them where they excel.

That's why today, a week before the Oscars®, we're introducing the Unny Awards—a way for you to help us celebrate our regions and give them the recognition they truly deserve.

Eileen & Carl Evers, Untourists of the Week "not-on-our-radar" Holland...unforgettable!"

on Tue, 01/14/2014 - 11:01
Untourists Eileen and Carl Evers share the story of their Leiden Untour in Holland

I love the local English speaking guides. They give us tips on what to see, how to get around, cell phones in case we need them and usually accompanied by a great meal! Our accommodations have always been comfortable and near sites we're interested in seeing.

Monday Memories: First Feather Down, Last Feather Down

Untourists Eleanor and Bill Kover share their story of their first European trip

This week's installment is our first from Untourists! Get a glimpse of this memory from Eleanor and Bill Kover.

Vienna, Austria. July 24, 1973.

It was our first trip to Europe, part of a two week "Freelance" tour that included London, Vienna, Rome and Paris. You had the choice of taking a bus tour of each city or going it on your own. It just took one bus ride to convince us that we are Untours people at heart.

Untourists visit the Louvre in Paris on a 3-week Untour Sampler including Paris, Rome and Florence

We like to have the ability to stand in front of a painting for as long as we want without keeping to a schedule. We like to see real neighborhoods and talk with local shopkeepers, etc.

Untourists, Untours,

1. Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.

Our most recent Untour was at the Hastalska apartment in the Jewish Quarter in Prague. This was a great location for exploring the city both on foot and by public transportation. The apartment was delightful, well furnished and equipped, and we enjoyed the small courtyard outside our door.

2. Why did you choose to go there?

We had never been to the Czech Republic and family and friends had highly recommended this magnificent city.

3. What is your favorite Untours memory?

Every Untour experience has been memorable; it is hard to pick a

Untourists of the Week: Carole & Ivan Edelman

on Tue, 04/02/2013 - 17:07
Here are Carol & Ivan!

1. Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.

Our lastest Untour was to Paris last spring. We stayed in the Daguerre (sp) apt for two weeks and loved it! The street market around the corner was wonderful and we enjoyed shopping for great things to eat each day. The metro stop was within one block and we got quite good at getting ourselves around. We explored as many of the suggested places as we could and we took 3 or 4 Paris walks. We had also arranged a side trip to the landing beaches in Normandy and stayed in Bayeau for one night. It was truly a trip to remember.

Raymond Heald, Untours

1. Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.

It was a dream vacation: 8 days on the Variety Voyager, the sleek 73-passenger yacht that put us ashore at the fabled ports of Capri, Lipari, Malta, plus 4 ports in Sicily. Then, a train ride to the sparkling Cinque Terre for 4 nights and a heavenly 2 weeks in the fabulous Bonalumi apartment in Locarno, with a breathtaking view of Lake Maggiore.
