And the Unny winners are...

on Mon, 03/03/2014 - 11:44
Untourist Ron Anderson captures a great vineyard shot from his Tuscany Untour

As you may know, we had the inaugural Unny Awards just recently. These awards are our way of recognizing the regions which have welcomed Untours all these years.

The Unnies are fun and lighthearted and that's how we like things around here.

We like to think of them as the Oscars® for Untours, though I admit we can't top the touching, heartfelt acceptance speech by Lupita Nyong'o last night.

Here come the Unny Awards!

on Sun, 02/23/2014 - 16:03
Untours hosts the first annual Unny Awards, a celebration of the regions it serves

Since I started working here way back in 2011, the Untours regions have been calling on me to give them some attention. Actually, not just attention, but distinction.

Now, I know they are all big enough to speak for themselves. They don't need you to tell them they're great; we all already know that.

What they really need is for you tell them where they excel.

That's why today, a week before the Oscars®, we're introducing the Unny Awards—a way for you to help us celebrate our regions and give them the recognition they truly deserve.

Monica & Pete Petersen (Untourists of the Week) Italo-philes extraordinaire

Pete & Monica Petersen

Every detail is taken care of for you. The staff, both in Media and at your destination, is top-notch and are to be commended for all their support. The Dream Book and travel suggestions and supplements are wonderful so you can really plan your trip. You can do as much as you like or as little. But the options to "Live like a Local" are there for you, just as Hal Taussig imagined it would be.

Eileen & Carl Evers, Untourists of the Week "not-on-our-radar" Holland...unforgettable!"

on Tue, 01/14/2014 - 11:01
Untourists Eileen and Carl Evers share the story of their Leiden Untour in Holland

I love the local English speaking guides. They give us tips on what to see, how to get around, cell phones in case we need them and usually accompanied by a great meal! Our accommodations have always been comfortable and near sites we're interested in seeing.

Whitmel....making another memory

1. Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.

We took a three week tour of Italy, in this order: Amalfi, Umbria and Tuscany. Our apartment in Amalfi was on the waterfront, with a balcony overlooking a delightfully Italianate traffic circle filled with life and a view of the sea. In Umbria, we were in a cottage rebuilt from an old hay barn and near the delightful town of Spello. In Tuscany we were in a ground floor apartment, part of the owner's house and near the town of Buonconvento.

2. Why did you choose to go there?

We had not been to Amalfi before and it seemed the best way to

The third time in Tuscany is the charm; Joseph & Lynda Wood, Untourists of the Week

Untourists Lynda and Joseph Wood recount their experience on their recent Tuscany Untour

1. Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.

This was our third trip to Tuscany, and I think we may have got it right this time. The first time we were in awe of the area. Everywhere you looked was another postcard scene. We tried to do everything suggested in the Untours book, and failed. So, we went back again 2 years ago to try again, and failed.

on Wed, 11/06/2013 - 11:30

Take our Wednesday's  Quickie Quiz here: Which lazy Tuscan moment (aka deliciously indulgent)  is your favorite?

  • Taste-testing Brunello with your host, the winemaker?
  • Taking a nap in your delicious room and then a dip in the pool?
  • Unwrapping your "treasures" for supper -- fabulous finds from the open market you picked up on your day seeing the sites, and now enjoy on your very own terrace?

Belle Edson, Untourist of the Week

1. Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.

My most recent trip was to Tuscany, specifically to Le Chiuse and Montalcino. I have been back to this location twice as Lorenzo is such a lovely host, the vineyard is so beautiful, and the little village is such a wonderful place to wander in. In addition, Harriet is the perfect Untour guide.

2. Why did you choose to go there?

I love Tuscany because of Siena, Florence, and all the little villages in between.
