Who: Dee McConnell, Director of Untours Ventures
What: Viking’s Rhine Getaway
Where: The Rhine (Basel to Amsterdam)
When: October, 2017
How: Sailing the Rhine
What were your favorite stops on the trip and why?
Strasbourg (below) was a true gem and quite charming with its small canals and colorful flowers. The Cathedral was gorgeous too.
Heidelberg’s castle (below) was fun to explore and had amazing views from its observation terrace. If you have time to explore, skip the main shopping street and wander the smaller back alleyways. There was a sweet surprise around every bend.
What was your favorite part of life on board the river ship?
Getting to experience so many wonderful destinations without having all of the work of packing and unpacking your bag. It is nice to sleep in the same bed every night and let the sights come to you.
What surprised you about the trip?
I was delighted by just how scenic it was. This is a memorable cruise if you love castles, medieval towns, and beautiful countryside.
What advice would you give others doing this trip?
Pace yourself since there is so much to do and see. Take the time to grab a seat on the sundeck (above) with a glass of wine and watch the world go by. Also, bring binoculars. They’re helpful for getting a better look at all of the castles you will pass as your cruise the Rhine.
