Austrian Untour, Fall of 2000
by Pat & Bruce Barton, Glen Mills, PA
Wow! What a great trip. We spent two weeks in Kuchl and were thrilled with our adventure. The whole idea for us was to spend time in the town, shop where the local people shopped, talk to the people, visit their restaurants, and see where and how they lived. We accomplished that in spades. The people were marvelous, very kind and friendly. The little bit of German that we spoke worked well for us, and if not, then laughter and sign language got us what we needed. The scenery was spectacular and the accommodations were top notch.
We cannot say enough about the friendliness, helpfulness, and good care given to us by Frau Rosemarie Springl. Her apartment was spacious and comfortable and her daily visits filled all of our needs. We had no trouble communicating with her either verbally or by notes, and we especially enjoyed the dinner which she prepared for us in her own home, and listening to her family play Austrian music for us. Her loving care of her flowers on the balcony added a great touch to making the apartment look like the typical Alpine home we had envisioned. Rosemarie’s son provided transportation to the Kuchl train station on departure, which made our trip to Vienna a lot easier. Pension Springl was great!
The rail passes enabled us to get around very easily. Thanks to Terry Seiwald’s orientation, we had no problems and were able to visit Salzburg, Hallein, Golling, Werfen, and several other small towns. We could have been gone all day every day, but Kuchl stole our hearts and we enjoyed spending our time there. The farewell dinner was a fun way to end our stay, with music and laughter and comparing stories of our visit. No one wanted to leave.
Thanks again to your organization for helping to make this a truly memorable adventure!
