If you’re an UnTourist and have traveled with us sometime in the last three decades, your trip planning probably included at least one conversation with Brian Taussig-Lux, our president for the last 27 years. Brian recently decided it was time to retire. Here we say a fond farewell to Brian and take a look at his time at the helm of the organization and his long stewardship of our pioneering company through the years.

Empowering Travelers

One of the hallmarks of Brian’s leadership has been his dedication to empowering travelers. By shepherding our unique and immersive travel experiences – trips that represent the origin of what’s now known by many as “slow travel” – he has given thousands of UnTourists the chance to explore destinations like locals, gaining insights and forging connections that extend beyond the typical tourist experience.

Beginning of B

UnTours can lay claim to the completely unique and unalterable title of the world’s very first Certified B Corporation. Now numbering in the tens of thousands, B Corporations (or B Corps) are “businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.” Our founder and Brian’s uncle, Hal Taussig, inspired the founders of the B Corp movement to create their certification system. Brian and Hal made it all happen for UnTours, leading the way for socially-conscious businesses around the world.

UnTourists, UnTours and the Team

Brian prioritized building a bridge with UnTourists and among our team. As longtime UnTours Program Director, Cathrin Baumbach says, “Brian’s concern for our UnTourists has always been his top priority, ensuring smooth travels and that everyone feels treated fairly. He set high expectations for himself and our team, while still being understanding. He’s a hands-on leader with a thorough knowledge of UnTours destinations and operations – a little known fact about Brian is his German language fluency, spoken with a charming Austrian accent. What truly left a lasting impression on me, though, was Brian’s humanity. It’s evident from the friendly ‘Good morning’ each day and extended to his genuine interest in all of us.” Thanks to Brian’s efforts, UnTours has built a stellar reputation for both the quality of the on-site experience and for its knowledgeable and responsive customer service. As Brian put it, “I am confident that UnTours is positioned to build on the strong foundation we have made. I look forward to seeing the success it achieves with its new leadership.”

Community Partnerships:

Throughout his tenure, Brian Taussig-Lux has forged lasting partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and communities, here in our home of Media, PA and in the regions where UnTours operates. These partnerships have not only enriched the travel experiences of UnTourists but have also contributed to the sustainable development of local economies.

Thank you for your decades of dedication, Brian!
