Wallace View 3

Peaceful and quiet 1-bedroom cottage in Stirling

Stay in Central Scotland

The Wallace View cottage is situated on a bucolic working family farm and has been newly refurbished. Located about 3 miles from the center of Stirling, it offers a peaceful setting and spectacular views of the National Wallace Monument, the Ochil Hills, and even Stirling Castle.

The simple look on the outside can be quite deceiving. Step inside, and you’ll find a lovely one-bedroom cottage. It is spacious, bright, and tastefully decorated with a bridal theme, as the owner’s daughter is a champion horse rider.

The cottage enjoys a spacious open-floor plan kitchen, dining area, and living room with comfortable furniture, a queen-size bedroom and large bathtub/shower combination. The apartment sleeps two, but could accommodate a third person in the living area (on the couch or a folding bed). It has a TV with UK channels, a dishwasher and washer/dryer and Wi-Fi.

UnTours has access to another cottage just a few steps away, which can sleep 4 and is a great setup for a group of family or friends.

The owner lives nearby and can be reached if needed. She and her daughter operate the farm themselves, so they are often quite busy.

A grocery store and popular Italian cafe are a quick drive or easy 25-minute walk should you feel so inclined on a nice day. Stirling is only 10 minutes by car and you have good access to the A9 motorway for trips further afield.

WiFi speed as of 4/23/21: 2.5 Mbps Down

Stirling, UK - Central Scotland, Home of Wallace View 3

They don’t call it the Gateway to the Highlands for nothing. Stirling is surrounded by lush, lovely countryside, with magnificent views along the River Forth.

Home to 86,000 people, Stirling is made up of an old town and a modern part with shops, banks, a diverse selection of restaurants, cafes, pubs, and a shopping mall.

The well preserved Old Town is a treasure trove of historic buildings and cobbled streets winding up to the Castle, and this is where you will want to spend your time. The castle, considered by many to be the best in Scotland, and its rich programming offer brilliant Medieval living history.

Stirling is also home to Scotland’s best surviving town walls. The Church of the Holy Rude has been the town’s parish church for 600 years and is where James VI was crowned in 1567. The National Wallace monument commemorates William Wallace, the hero of the Scottish movement for independence (as depicted in the movie Braveheart) who defeated the English at Stirling Bridge in 1297. Though his heroics are significant, it was Robert the Bruce’s defeat of the English in 1314 at the Battle of Bannockburn that finally established a lasting Scottish nation. You can visit the Bannockburn Heritage Centre on the outskirts of town to learn more.

Stirling has a public library with internet access and a tourist office in the historic district. Music lovers can find traditional music sessions in one of the many pubs, our favorite being the Wednesday night session at the Settle Inn.

The city is on a train line with frequent service to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Both are an hour or less by train, and the region offers great highway access with many beautiful day trip options by car like St. Andrews, Callander, Loch Lomond, Inverness, and Oban.

Landlord

Anne, the owner (on the right), lives nearby and can be reached if needed. She and her daughter operate the farm themselves, so they are often quite busy.

Reviews

Here's what our guests have to say

★★★★★

A very nice rural setting. There were sheep and horses in the surrounding fields. Very quiet. There were three apartments together, so we were not completely alone. The views were great and Anne, the owner, was very helpful. The apartment was cozy. We liked the horse theme and the curtains! Dishwasher, washing machine, plenty of silverware and dishes, sufficient pots and pans to cook with. The location was such that you could easily get to sites in and around Stirlin.

★★★★★

It couldn't have been better! If we had had any disability, however, we could not have used the bathtub/shower at all as it was very tall to get over. Other than that, it was a wonderful space, peaceful, modern, clean, well-appointed. A gem with many sheep and two horses as neighbors.

Rebecca & Gordon McGregor

★★★★★

It was a very nice apartment, very clean. We are country people and enjoyed the sheep and horses around the apartment.

The cottage is situated on a sheep farm with a view from the kitchen window to a filed of grazing sheep and beyond to the Wallace Monument and from the other side of the house to a field where Henry the Clydesdale and sheep grazed. We mention this because the views were a major part of our positive experience. The cottage itself was perfectly appointed with all that one might desire in a vacation rental. It is conveniently located to the sites in the Stirling area.
