What is hygge, and how are you keeping cozy?

Dear Friend,

I love adopting ideas and concepts from other cultures, and I enjoy watching the best of them infiltrate our own cultural thinking. Feng shui and wabi sabi are a couple of my favorites. But no other idea (trend?) is more suited to this moment than hygge.

The Danish word is not quite translatable, but it captures the feeling of comfort and well-being one gets from a cozy home. Think candles, tea, fuzzy socks, baking, and a relaxing evening in. It is a lovely way to reframe the increased time we are all spending at home this winter and an inspiration to be intentional about our household environment, to make our homes lovely and relaxing sanctuaries.

In this issue of Eurozine, we look to Europe and some of our favorite Untours home-away-from-homes for hygge inspiration. We are also snuggling up with some good reading from the blog and planning ahead for some fun European Zoom events you can enjoy from your recliner. So put another log on the fire and join us.
