Landlord or Host for Britschgi Chalet, Sachseln, Switzerland - Heartland
The English-speaking Britschgis reside about fifty yards away in their large home. They are revered by their guests as a friendly and caring host family. Mr. Britschgi, a homebuilder, has personally restored the chalet in authentic style, but with modern comforts.
Sachseln, Switzerland - Heartland, Home of Britschgi Chalet
The pretty town of Sachseln (population 4,000) is located on the shore of crystal blue Lake Sarnen. It is renowned as the home of Bruder Klaus, the patron saint of Switzerland, who is revered as a religious figure and as a crucial political force in the unification of the country in the fifteenth century. The impulses for much of what lies at the core of Swiss thinking—neutrality, autonomy and tolerance—began with this
remarkable man. He is buried in the large baroque church that graces the center of town.
Despite its size, Sachseln is blessed with several fine restaurants and 2 small museums, a large supermarket as well as a bank/ATM. Lake Sarnen invites you to explore its lovely shores. You can walk in either direction to the neighboring Heartland towns of Sarnen or Giswil. Sachseln’s meadows and forests offer beautiful hikes right at your doorstep.
With 2 northbound trains each hour to Luzern (35 minutes) providing excellent connections throughout Switzerland, Sachseln makes a superb base for touring the country. Moreover, it lies among the foothills of the Swiss Alps. Hourly train service south takes guests quickly into the high mountains for breathtaking scenery and excellent hiking.
Customer comments about Britschgi Chalet, Sachseln, Switzerland - Heartland
"The chalet was fantastic. It was an honor to stay in such a historic place and to experience the "real" Switzerland. We adored the Britschgi family...they couldn't have been kinder or more charming. They went out of their way to help us have a wonderful stay. We loved the ability to open the shutters and breathe in the fresh Swiss air and see the spectacular views out each window." Debra & Chris Boelkes
"Wow! Historical chalet with modern conveniences, including wireless internet. perfect!" Marilyn Leedom
"This is one of the best places we've stayed in -- in many years of travel. The host couldn't have been kinder." Robert Lock
"Our landlady Louise was lovely, so friendly and interested....her son took us back to the train and supplied us with a longer internet wire (he is the techie).....the whole family was very friendly. The apartment was large and worked wonderfully...we would go back in a minute. There is a school right behind but the bedroom is in the front and that didn't bother us as we we usually up before the kids arrived. The chalet was built around 1800 and has a very old green ceramic stove that used to be the heater and oven. There is no TV but the web access was as good as ours at home. Didn't miss the TV...The kitchen was very well supplied, even had a salad spinner... Louise went and got me her Italian drip coffee pot that she had never used (it was a gift) because I mentioned I liked to use one. Lot's of literature in the apartment too." Ellie & John Hagner
"The Britschgi's were great hosts. They did everything to make us feel at home and went beyond what was expected. I highly recommend them to anyone" Arthur Korse
"Frau Britschgi deserves a 5+++ for her hospitality." Virginia & Fred Oakland
“The chalet was comfortable and quaint. We enjoy the "cabin" aspects of the building, versus some of the apartments which are very modern. The entire Britschgi family are wonderful hosts! This was the fourth time we've stayed with them and we love them all. We'd be delighted if they could come to Arizona and stay with us some time. We choose the Sachseln location because of the Britschgi's, not the housing.” Gilbert & June Wang
"We enjoyed our apartment, but I would warn anyone over 6' tall about the low construction features." Robert Beymer
"This charming chalet, built in 1776, was upgraded to modern use. It suited our needs perfectly. Little things were provided - kleenex, bath tissue, guide books, reading books, alarm clock, drying rack, good reading lights, etc." Lorma Kraemer
"One of our highlights was being invited to our hosts' home for a traditional swiss meal. It was super-delicious and the Britschgis were very hospitable. They definitely went over and above the call of duty." Doris Patton
"Lodging was perfect, couldn't have been more comfortable." Carol Fitting
"Very comfortable. Hated to leave." Donna Travis
"We requested this apartment because we love the Britschgi family! We've stayed with them before. They are friendly, gracious hosts."
Gil & June Wang
"It was nearly perfect! It was beautifully equipped with everything we could possibly need. We cooked almost all our meals there, and packed lunches for our day trips. Beds were comfortable, we had access to TV and internet. Good lighting throughout. Only issue we had was difficulty getting in and out of tub/shower. A grab bar would be a useful addition to the bathroom. Hosts were kind, accommodating, eager to assist us." Jacqueline Cressey
"The chalet was absolutely perfect in every way--spacious, cozy, easily
