BÜTIKOFER, REUTI, SWITZERLAND - HEARTLAND
This property is locally owned and operated. The money we pay for your accommodation will benefit the local economy where you will be staying.
The Bütikofer apartment in the alpine village of Hasliberg-Reuti is on the ground floor of a wooden chalet typical to the Bernese Oberland. The apartment is fully equpped and nicely furnished, including TV & radio. On special request, it will sleep up to four persons in two bedrooms, one of which is a small single which can be made into a double with trundle bed for children.
The living room, dining area and furnished terrace look across a meadow to a fine, western-facing view of the great Alps of the region, the Wetterhorn and the Eiger. The chalet is also the residence of the host family, the Bütikofers. Frau Bütikofer speaks English. The apartment is 75-100 yards from the center of the alpine village of Reuti on the Hasliberg mountainside. Here there are a small grocery, shops, a postal bus station, an aerial cableway, and two good restaurants.
Hourly post bus service (6:30am- 8:30pm; taxi service thereafter) connects to trains at the famed Bruenig Pass station (23 minutes from Reuti). Half-hourly aerial cablecar connections (daylight hours) bring you quickly (7 min. journey time) to the large resort town of Meiringen deep in the valley below. Continuous gondola operations from Reuti carry visitors to the beautiful heights of Hasliberg mountain, a spectacular region for hikers of all levels. Reuti is close to Switzerland's center, making it a fine base for day trips throughout the country. However, Reuti itself is so beautiful, and seems so remote, that it will also appeal to those who wish simply to get away from it all and surround themselves with spectacular mountain vistas.

Reuti, Switzerland - Heartland, Home of Bütikofer
The Hasliberg, a mountain, is also the name of a community made up of 4 villages: Hohfluh, Wasserwendi, Goldern and Reuti. They share one local government, one mayor, one tourist office, one community center and one bank. It is not clear exactly when the mountain was first settled, but the area developed a unique culture and personality over many centuries. In some ways, the inhabitants lived in splendid isolation, which perhaps explains why these 4 small villages appear to be right out of “Heidi.” A casual stroll through any one reveals beautiful old chalets, immaculate gardens and gentle hints of a way of life from long ago.
The Hasliberg is best described as a hiker’s paradise, with the greatest variety and concentration of outstanding walks and hikes in the Heartland. There is a wonderful walk for families with children created around the stories of “Muggestutz,” a Hasliberg dwarf. Each of the villages has at least one or two good restaurants and small grocery stores supplying basic needs, and Hofhluh also features a fine little bakery.
The post bus connects the 4 villages with the Brunig train station, which offers hourly service to the famed Bernese Oberland resort of Interlaken (45 minutes west) and the city of Luzern (75 minutes north.) An aerial tramway connects Reuti with Meiringen down in the valley every 30 minutes. Cable cars also connect Reuti to higher locations on the Hasliberg (gondolas to Kaserstatt, Bidmi, Magisalp and Planplatten) .
