This apartment offers a combination of practical day-to-day living and English “country house” style, albeit with a certain faded elegance. The owners use this place as their “London pad” when they’re not in their country house. Its position is unbeatable: Holland Park is 2 minutes away, Kensington Gardens / Hyde Park is 5 minutes, Kensington High Street with its smart shops is 2 minutes, the tube station (Kensington High Street – District and Circle lines) is 3 minutes and it’s also well served with buses.
The flat is on the second floor (no lift) of an elegant 1850’s building with high ceilings and fine features. It’s ideal for a family, accommodating 5 in two double bedrooms and a single. There are three bathrooms – one with bath and two with showers.
The front door opens onto a spacious wooden-floored hallway and, entering through big wooden double doors, the first room on the left is the large kitchen and dining room. This wooden-floored room is presented in minimalist style with just two principle features – a large maple-wood table that comfortably seats 10 and a brushed-steel island containing the oven, hob, sink, drawers, storage units etc. There’s also a dishwasher and washer/dryer.
This room doubles as a family room so there are also a couple of easy-chairs. Two double glass doors give masses of light and lead out to a balcony (narrow but wide enough to sit out on) that runs the length of the flat.
The next room is the drawing room and, in complete contrast, is presented in classic elegant English “country house” style, albeit with a certain faded elegance: large gilt mirrors, original art on the walls, carpets and rugs covering the floor, antique furniture, etc.
A concession to modernity is the TV with DVD player and stereo system. There’s also WiFi. Again the two double glass doors which open onto to the balcony give an amazing amount of light.
The main double bedroom has a canopied double bed and, effectively, its own bathroom (bath, basin, toilet) though it’s not en-suite.
The other two bedrooms – a double and a single each have their own bathroom (shower, basin and toilet).
Close to two of the best-loved London parks and just off Kensington High Street, this area is one of the smartest parts of London. Kensington Church Street, renowned for its antique shops and boutiques is a 2 minute stroll and Kensington Palace (the home of Princess Diana) is within 10 minutes. Notting Hill is one stop away on the tube. The area is full of charming shops, pubs, excellent cafés and restaurants.

Kensington, UK - London, Home of Kensington High Street
Kensington, one of the most posh and elegant neighborhoods in London, has the whole package: beauty and brains. Sophisticated town houses with white columns and bold front doors, artisan bakeries and cheese shops, and small mews (tiny communities) fill this opulent neighborhood. Hugging the southwest corner of Hyde Park, Kensington has prime access to the city’s greatest green space. Additionally, the famous Kensington Gardens line the border offering Diana Memorial Playground for kids and the famous Kensington Palace.
Kensington isn’t just about its gorgeous backdrop, however. It’s filled with some of the top museums in London (and Europe!) including the National History Museum, the Science Museum, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Once you’re done enjoying these free collections, head to see a concert at the Royal Albert Hall or enjoy shopping on Kensington High Street. Adjacent to the Royal Albert Hall is appropriately the Royal College of Art and the Royal College of Music. Home to many embassies and their respective diplomats, Kensington is also one of the safest neighborhoods in London.

"Talk about location, location, location. Kensington High Street was wonderful. We were able to get all over quickly. The apartment was large and full of light. Really liked the kitchen/dining area for planning excursions. The bedrooms were fine. One bathroom was a bit small, but we managed. The only drawback was the living room furniture. After a long day of touring (walking, standing) the furniture was not very comfortable. Did not have to be expensive furniture, but it could have been a little more soft and easy to sit on."
