Favoriten, Austria - Vienna, Home of Amalia B
Favoriten is also known as "the tenth district" of Vienna. It was once a separate town and wasn't annexed into Vienna until the nineteenth century. It is now an increasingly fashionable neighborhood because of its proximity to the center and its convenient selection of shops and restaurants. The Favoritenstrasse pedestrian zone is one of Vienna's most popular shopping streets. Even though the neighborhood is only 7 minutes by subway from Vienna's State Opera House, prices in shops and restaurants in Favoriten are much lower than in the center. The open-air Viktor-Adler market is a wonderful place to buy fresh produce from local farmers.
The Amalienbad is arguably Favoriten's most important landmark. It is considered by many to be the most beautiful art deco spa and swimming pool in the world. Its closest competition is the Gellert Hotel in Budapest. It was originally built as a bath house for the neighborhood's residents who did not have bath facilities in their apartments. It is now used mainly as a swimming pool and physical therapy clinic. Even if you are not a swimmer, you should take a peek at the beautiful pool. If you are a swimmer, the pool is open to the public and entry prices are quite reasonable.
Customer comments about Amalia B, Favoriten, Austria - Vienna
"We loved "Fredi's" apartment. It was so convenient to the center of the city. And one delightful aspect of that location in addition to the helpful landlord, lovely apartment and convenient location was the excellent farmer's market." Carol Stern and Jerry Carmen
"Loved the apartment, and the landlord, Freddie was very pleasant and helpful. Location not so great for restaurants, shopping (kind of junkey neighborhood), but close to metro." Suzanne Bourque
"One word- "amazing". This is the nicest apartment we've been in in our 11 Untours." Pat & Tom Low
"Perfect apartment and location! Freddy, the owner, was most accommodating and helpful. The apartment was very clean and extremely functional. Being so close to the tram and subway was just wonderful--and the neighborhood shops, internet access and nearby ATMs made the whole situation the best of our stay. Not only that, but Fredi was up and bidding us farewell at 5:15 a.m. That was way beyond the call of duty!" -- Mark & Sandra Lore
"The proximity of the apartment to the underground was wonderful. The Vienna subway system is amazing and it is easy to get anyplace using it and the trams/streetcars. The location of the apartment was excellent. " Barbara Scholl
