What you can’t miss in ParisWhere does one start to narrow down the list in one of the most culturally-rich cities in the world? From iconic monuments to Impressionist art to risqué night clubs, the choices are endless. We’ve compiled a list of the top 11 that we feel should not be missed.

1. Eiffel Tower – Well, if I may be so blunt – duh! Seeing the lights sparkle for 10 minutes at the top of the hour after dusk is magical.

2. The markets – Every arrondissement (district) has at least one. The best food markets would be Rue Montorgueil, Rue Cler, Place Monge, Bastille, Enfants Rouge and Mouffetard. There are also antiques, fashion and flea markets you shouldn’t miss.

3. Musée d’Orsay – Impressionism and lots of it. The museum itself is beautiful, transformed from a train station.

4. Montmartre and Sacre Coeur – True to its history, there are still lots of local artist and street performers around here. Just be careful of pickpockets!

5. The parks and gardens where one can relax on a sunny day: Luxembourg, les Tuileries in front of the Louvre (also houses l’Orangerie Museum), Boulogne, Vincennes and André-Citroen are good places to start.

6. Notre Dame – Climbing to the top gives you quite a good view of Paris… and you’re closer to the gargoyles!

7. L’Arc de Triomphe – See another great view of Paris. Definitely worth the entrance fee to climb to the top. I recommend doing it at night as you get a full appreciation of the CIty of Lights.

8. Versailles – Palace of the Sun King, Louis XIV. The gardens of Marie Antoinette and fountains are spectacular.

9. Opéra (or Palais) Garnier – Where the infamous Phantom of the Opera resides. You can take guided tours or see a show. They are quite reasonably priced!

10. The Louvre – A bit daunting with the quantity of art housed here, but with ample time, it’s wonderful to explore the regions of the world in the museum’s numerous exhibits.

11. Moulin Rouge – It is legendary and historic. Can you can-can?
