Vienna is widely known for its culinary perspicacity, specifically in the dessert department. Sure, you can’t think of Vienna without thinking of its schnitzel, sausages and various wursts. But, once you have its strudels, palatschinkens and knödels, you’ll wonder how Vienna Fingers can get away with claiming a city with such delicious traditions.

Beyond Vienna, though, there is a multitude of options for the cake curious amongst us. And, really, who isn’t at least just a bit curious?

One of our favorite Austrian spots for the aforementioned deliciousness is Café Maier. Located in Golling, just 20 minutes outside Salzburg, this hotel/café was founded in 1928 and has been tickling tongues and tummies with its tasty treats and tender touch ever since.

As it proclaims on its website, you will most definitely find “typical Austrian hospitality and a family touch” when you pop in for some of its traditional Austrian cakes or pastries.

In addition to traditional desserts, however, you can enjoy the café’s delicious coffee, cool down with some home-made ice cream or refresh yourself with a drink in the beer garden.

When it comes to finding Austrian desserts that rival those in Vienna, look no further than Café Maier.
