Hal believes that money – and people for that matter! – should be working most of the time. So, when the foundation has funds waiting in the bank for a promised start date of a loan, we look for interim places to put those funds, where they can do some good work. These interim places are often non-profits awaiting promised grants.
One such non-profit was Witness to Innocence, which empowers death row survivors and their loved ones to be effective leaders in abolishing the death penalty. We gave this organization an interim loan in 2012 while it awaited a grant from the European Union.
Last week, Witness to Innocence’s Advocacy Director was featured in The New York Times. It’s a powerful read.
