1. Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.

This past summer, Mary and I spent two weeks in the Esther apartments in Frutigen. This was the third year for staying in this apartment. This year, our guests were our daughter and her family, including two children, ages seven and five. Our purpose was to develop memories in the grandchildren’s minds regarding their grandparents taking them to Europe when they were young. It was a wonderful experience which they will remember after we are gone.

2. Why did you choose to go there?

We chose Frutigen because it provided two apartments in the same house. The larger apartment with two bedrooms and a bath was ideal for our daughter and family. Connected to it by a hallway was a studio apartment with a bath which Mary and I used. Frutigen also appealed to us because it is located among the most beautiful mountains of Switzerland.

3. What is your favorite UnTours memory?

My favorite memory involved taking the cable car up to the top of Schilthorn mountain and eating in the revolving restaurant there. Eating lunch while looking out at the snow covered peaks and later looking down from the summit into the valley are breathtaking. We also enjoyed viewing the Matterhorn again this year.

4. How is taking an Untour different from other ways of travelling?

Traveling with UnTours provides us the opportunity to vacation on our time schedule and do our own thing. We enjoy living among the common people of Switzerland, grocery shopping in their stores, experiencing their culture, and being separated from fellow American tourists.

5. If you could describe an Untour in just three words, what would they be?

Exciting, reasonable travel

6. Have you heard of our trailblazing UnTours Foundation? What do you think of a company whose profits have gone to create jobs among vulnerable populations through loans to pioneering, green businesses?

One of the reason I travel “UnTours”
