| Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.: | We’ve been Untouring for over 18 years and this was our first Untour Sampler — Umbria and Amalfi. In the past we’ve done 2 week UnTours in Holland, Swiss Oberland, Greece (twice!), Portugal, Spain/Andalusia, France/Provence, Italy/Tuscany and France/Alsace. We loved exploring the Umbrian hilltop towns steeped in history and we were captivated by the Amalfi coastline. |
| Why did you choose to go there?: | We made a brief foray into Orvieto when we were on our Tuscany Untour so we wanted to see the rest of Umbria. And I had visited Amalfi 20 years ago and wanted to share it with Bob. Two totally different areas but we loved both areas — the biodynamic agriturismo life and rustic farmlands of Umbria and the majestic and the mesmerizing beauty of the Amalfi Coast. The Italians really do know how to enjoy life! |
| What is your favorite UnTours memory?: | All of our memories are so wonderful that it’s hard to pick just one! Listening to the Benedictine chants in the centuries old Abbey of Sant’Antimo; shopping for fresh cheese at the outdoor Markets in different towns; touring a winery and having lunch with the owner and his wife; visiting the flower market in Aalsmeer, Holland and watching the flower auction; learning to order our meals in the native languages; meeting the locals and feeling “at home” from the moment we arrived. |
| How is taking an Untour different from other ways of traveling?: | It is the ultimate way to travel — you have a home base to come back to and the freedom to explore at your own pace. And you always have the support of UnTours if you need them. We love coming “home” every evening and sitting on our deck/patio/balcony and planning our next day’s adventures. |
