Swiss guests on the Heartland or Oberland UnTours will certainly visit the town of Lucerne during their stay. And Lake Lucerne is one of its star attractions.

There are many ways to explore it. Whether on a historical steamboat, a comfortable yacht, or a modern catamaran, guests can glide over the waters of Lake Lucerne in style, thanks to the diverse fleet of the Lake Lucerne navigation company (SGV). And with the Swiss Travel Pass that is included in the Swiss Untour, cruising the lake is free.

Expect to see idyllic coves and dramatic fjord-like rocky slopes, deep blue, crystal clear water, and a backdrop of snow-covered mountain peaks. It is no coincidence that Lake Lucerne is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland.

To help visitors enjoy the lake up close, the Lake Lucerne Navigation Company (SGV) offers a wide range of boat cruises on a regular basis, all year. Their fleet is impressive. Ships have operated on Lake Lucerne going all the way back to the early 19th century. Five historic paddle steamers still cruise the lake today, just as they did back then.

The newest member of the fleet is the MS Diamant, a luxurious motor vessel that offers guests true cruise ship ambiance. It offers underwater views, a lake water footbath, and a glass-domed gallery. This boat is luxurious!

The other 14 boats of the fleet are pretty comfortable too, with catering that offers a large selection of regional and seasonal specialities. Interested in an outstanding culinary experience? From its Brunch Cruise to a World Food Cruise, there are special options for every taste.

Central Switzerland is perfectly accessible by boat. These boats also dovetail with memorable train rides, all covered with the Swiss Travel Pass that the Swiss Untour includes for all guests.

On the Majestic Round Trip, which starts from Lucerne, a roughly one-hour boat cruise takes passengers to Vitznau. There, the cog railway waits to transport guests up to Rigi Kulm.

The Gotthard Panorama Express also combines boat and train: The journey starts with a boat cruise of just under three hours from Lucerne to FlΓΌelen, where the panoramic train is ready for boarding. The relaxed journey continues over the historical Gotthard route and allows guests to sample the Mediterranean flair of Ticino.
