Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour cruise.
Sarah and I enjoyed a Viking River Cruise in concert with UnTours. We flew from Kansas City to Marseilles, France via Detroit and Paris. We were bused from Marseille to Avignon where we boarded the Viking long boat, The Europa, in order to cruise for seven days and nights up the Rhone River. The tour was entitled, Portraits of Southern France. We loved everything about the cruise: the onboard hospitality and food were wonderful; the daily stops and tours along the Rhone were exceptionally well planned and interesting and our quarters were more than adequate. We especially appreciated the daily tours or trips into the ancient villages, towns and cities. Our trip ended in Lyon, from which we flew to Paris, where we enjoyed threes days of sightseeing on our own, though UnTours made lodging and flight arrangements for us.
What made you decide to take a cruise with UnTours?
We appreciated and trusted UnTours because of a previous trip to Tuscany and Rome (2011) and took advantage of a bit of a deal that was available to us. We had not ever done a river cruise and saw this offering as a good way to get our feet wet. (Pun intended.)
How similar are the travel experiences you had on your Untour and on your cruise?
The coordination of travel arrangements was very similar. The daily tours coordinated by the cruise people was much different in the sense that our UnTours trip to Italy had no such daily planning. We appreciate both styles! Both trips provided us meaningful ways of becoming acquainted with the people and culture of lands new to us.
What would you tell other Untourists thinking about taking a cruise through UnTours?
Do it! In fact, we have recommended UnTours/Viking to several couples. I think as of this date at least one other couple has signed on for a UnTours/Viking cruise arrangement in the summer of 2013.
