Summer in Buenos Aires!

Features:

Hi ,

EvitaLast January as my parents celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary my sisters and I struggled to find the perfect gift. At this point in their lives, we could think of no object that they needed or that we would even particularly enjoy giving them. Instead, we focused on an experience we might be able to give, a memory they would be able to hold on to. An Untour to Buenos Aires seemed the perfect solution if we were looking for a city whose power and seductiveness grows and lingers...at least it had for me.

Last week, my parents returned from their one week Untour in Buenos Aires. My father, who in general prefers the country to the city, was enchanted by the greenery and their side trip to Colonia in Uruguay. My mother lamented the fact that they hadn't been able to stay longer to explore more of the neighborhoods, sit at more cafes, and go to the Recoleta market, "just one more time." Most of all, though, they both appreciated springtime in Buenos Aires, with its flowering jacaranda trees and the Rosedal Garden in full bloom. With springtime soon melding into summer in the Paris of South America, now is the perfect time to head south and beat your winter blues.

To blooming southern gardens,

  • El Parque 3 de Febrero/Bosques de Palermo: probably the most famous of Buenos Aires' parks and gardens located on Avenues Del Libertador, Dorrego and Figueroa Alcorta. It is a popular place for joggers and families during the day. The beautiful Rosedal rose garden is also located on the grounds of this large park.
  • Recoleta Plazas (Village) -Plaza Intendente Alvear: located at 1725 Posadas Street is a beautiful part of Recoleta.  This neighborhood is one of the greenest in Buenos Aires and typified by many interconnecting green squares.
  • Jardin Botanico Carlos Thays: located in the Palermo neighborhood, the botanical garden features diverse flora from all over the world.
  • Parque Lezamais: located at Defensa 1600, Lezama Park has a monument to Pedro de Mendoza, one of the early founders of Buenos Aires.
  • Parque Centenario: located in the Caballito neighborhood of Buenos Aires.  Though not usually a tourist destination, Argentinians prefer this part of Buenos Aires for its tranquility. It is also home to the National Science Museum of Argentina.
  • Parque Chacabuco: located next to the neighborhood of Caballito, it is one of Buenos Aires' largest parks. It is particularly popular with local families.
  • Reserva Ecologia Costanera Sur: the city's ecological reserve is one of the wildest and most natural parts of Buenos Aires. The reserve is home to hundreds of different bird species and fauna. Access the park by foot from any of the bridges in Puerto Madero or rent a bike and explore the many trails within the reserve on bicycle.

First Annual Hal Taussig Award!
Hal wining B Corp Award
Hal, B Lab founders, Bart Houlahan and Jay Gilbert, and B Lab staff member, Susan Garrigle

B Lab, the organization that certifies socially responsible businesses known as B Corporations, gave Hal the first annual "Hal Taussig Award" at its conference in late October. Crediting Hal with inspiring the B Lab founders in their mission, Hal was affirmed for his wonderful self and praised for the way he founded and shaped both Untours, and his creative Untours Foundation.

Never quite convinced he is worthy of these awards, Hal was most gracious and touched by the B Lab honor. The actual award was a pack of UNO cards since Hal is their "numero uno!"

The Buenos Aires Untour includes a two-day bus pass, on-site staff support, a beautiful vacation rental, transportation to and from the airport, and an on-site tango event.
BorgesEvita
San Martin
The Borges is a newly renovated two-bedroom apartment overlooking the street with an excellent view and featuring a large balcony. The apartment is located in the best residential area half a block from Quintana Av. and one block distance from famous Alvear Ave.
The Evita apartment is located in the Recoleta neighborhood, considered the most elegant and vibrant in Buenos Aires. Walking just a few blocks you´ll reach the Recoleta Park surrounded by cafés, restaurants, urban artists and the city's main museums.
Stepping inside the San Martin, it's easy to imagine that you've entered a charming little townhouse in Paris. Windows are framed with old French shutters that stretch from floor to ceiling in dark rich wood, creating a feeling of tranquility and privacy.
