Eighth Arrondissement, France - Paris, Home of Champs Elysees 1

The Eighth Arrondissement traditionally symbolizes wealth, commerce and government. The brilliant “tricolore” flag of France flies wherever a government building stands. The residences of the president and prime minister are both located here – just blocks apart. The Champs Elysées, arguably the most famous avenue in the world, bisects this quarter, lined with shops, cinemas and restaurants. The Rue du Faubourg St. Honoré is home to chic boutiques as well as the world’s most famous fashion houses, like Hermès and Chanel. Meanwhile, daily Parisian life continues uninterrupted. Sidewalk cafés fill with friends chatting over a café au lait, bakeries sell warm bread and croissants, and the hurried man in a suit dashes past trying to catch the departing Metro. The Eighth Arrondissement is also home to the Parc Monceau, an exquisite eighteenth-century park with varied points of interest, including a majestic colonnade surrounding a lake and a Chinese pagoda.

Outside the Eighth Arrondissement, the rest of the city awaits. Whether it’s a leisurely walk along the Seine, a visit to one of the countless museums or an unforgettable meal in a cozy neighborhood restaurant, you’ll never run out of things to do in this marvelous city. Even lingering in one of the meticulously kept gardens or sidewalk cafés can be a daylong activity. Everything is conveniently located, just a short walk from any Metro station, one of the safest and most efficient subway systems in the world.

If your plans include travel to areas outside Paris, the RER (regional train) can transport you quickly and economically. Day trips to the Versailles Palace, Disneyland Paris, Monet’s home in Giverny, and the Chartres cathedral are easily accomplished and well worth the trip.

Reviews

Here's what our guests have to say

J.J. (September 2019)

★★★★★

The new apartment was large and comfortable. The new windows (doors, actually) soundproof the apartment from street noise on rue de Colisee below, and in Sept. we could keep the bedroom windows closed at night (the others were cracked open for circulation of fresh air). We were a block from three different bakeries and four different groceries (each with its advantages) as well as good take-out food. The one inconvenience (minor) of the apt. was the lack of a microwave oven, which is handy with take-out. One of the pleasures of this apartment was its library. We had the fun of identifying the apartment owner: his work, his background, even his name (on his bookplates).

George Sewell (5/19)

★★★★★

The apartment and its location were great.

Erika and Jim Walker

★★★★★

The apartment was lovely but the neighborhood was very noisy with lots of traffic and construction.
