UnTours in Tuscany

Get Away & UnPack Once in Tuscany

In many ways, Tuscany offers the best of Italy in one beautifully wrapped package. History, scenic vistas, small-town tradition, hearty cuisine, and fabulous local wine are all here for the taking. No matter when you visit, the seasons unfold in vibrant hues. From green hills, polka-dotted with poppies in springtime, to dancing sunflower fields in summer, to vines heavy with grapes in autumn, you can’t go wrong. Stroll through art-filled hill towns, soak in the picturesque views, and relish farm-to-table dining. Then unwind in your rustic apartment, where your stay promises to be tranquil and extraordinary.

Stay in a restored farmhouse, on a working farm, or a vineyard near Buonconvento or Montalcino, in the heart of wine country.

Day trip options include Siena, San Gimignano, the Chianti Valley, Montepulciano, Pienza, Volterra, Cortona, Florence, and more!

On Wine & Food UnTours, Truffle hunting is the highlight. Or is the wine? Wine aficionados gather on this UnUsual UnTour, where your independent time traveling is combined with group tastings of unique wines and experiences.

Things to do in Tuscany

Day trips: Siena, Pienza, Montepulciano, San Gimignano, and, of course, Florence. Lucca, Volterra and Pisa are also longer day-trip possibilities.

Sightseeing: The flower-lined, cobblestoned streets of Pienza, the unforgettable Duomo and Piazza del Campo of Siena, the wonderful scenery of the Chianti Valley, and the 13 medieval towers of San Gimignano. Right in your own backyard, wander the streets of the classic hill town of Montalcino, one of UnTours’ home villages, admire the austere beauty of the Sant’Antimo Abbey framed by cypress trees, or visit the open-air market on Saturday in your hometown of Buonconvento before enjoying an unpretentious but delicious meal at Da Mario, one of our favorite local restaurants.

Off-the-beaten-track treasures that can’t be beat: Wander the tiny little medieval village of Murlo, very near our hometown, visit the Medicean mineral bath at Bagno Vignoni and stop by to take a dip in the bathing pool of a natural spring at Bagni di San Filipo. Discover Montepulciano by getting lost on the back road through Monticchiello, picnic at Abbazia di San Galgano, the ruins of a sixteenth-century abbey, still a beautiful and well-maintained piece of architecture, ruin or not!

Here's what our customers have to say

Mark Jones

We had an absolutely great trip. This morning I put my Firenze Card pass around my neck on the way to the kitchen for coffee in case Lois had another museum planned for the day. I also asked for cappuccino. And I asked if we were going to have wild boar in one of the many manifestations for one of today’s meals. Sadly there was no museum today, nor a cappuccino nor wild boar, although Lois thawed out some pork for me to make stir fry tonight, THANKS so much for your assistance and UnTours great job!

John Fletcher

The beauty of the the Tuscan countryside and the hilltop villages. It surpassed my expectations.

Alex Marmolejo

This is our third UnTour. We love to travel the UnTour way. We will be traveling with UnTour again. We want to try another area, but we are so drawn to Tuscany we may take a third trip there.

Linda Cregan

Our apartment, the location, the ease of touring Tuscany on our own schedule, Harriet, our hosts, quietly observing everyday life in Tuscany.

Belle Edson

Harriet is fantastic. She is a gracious and wonderful host and representative for your company. She was helpful, without being overly so, she was gracious and kind and the event she planned (both of them) were wonderful and really assisted all of us to get to know one another. It was truly magical and Harriet was the reason. She is a delight!

Evelyn deFrees and Brad LaRoche

Best was Le Chuise--its views, apartments, pool (first rate), our UnTourist friends, and the magical proximity to Montalcino--the walk up the hill to town was fantastic. Very central to many lovely sights. And knowing Harriet was always there even if we rarely needed to call. UnTourist group lunches (we had 2) were just perfect for our family.

Nancy & Andy Mactavish

We loved the area and the farm and appreciated all the suggestions on driving, parking, customs. It was nice to be a part of a local town and visit when we could with the people of the area.

Vicki Ingham

The combination of support and freedom is ideal. I go to Italy to paint more than to do a lot of touring. I look forward to these 2 weeks for the remaining 50! It’s a place and time untied from the stresses that normally define life, so it’s a terrific gift.

Kerry & Ken Washburn

What more can I say but it was magical, enchanting, beautiful, life-renewing and a little bit of Nirvana.

Stephanie Graves

It would be impossible to choose one aspect of my Tuscany UnTour trip that was my favorite as every day turned out to be more fun than the last.

Deborah Moulton

It was beyond my wildest dreams. That sounds so phony but it's true. I had been dreaming about doing this for years and it was better than I imagined.

Marlilyn Mendelsohn

The beauty of the area made for an ambiance that was peaceful, calming, heavenly.

Le Chiuse is a stunningly beautiful property; the peace and quiet was wonderful and we loved the birds and wildlife.

The best thing about our Tuscany UnTour was the beauty and peacefulness of LeChiuse.

Karen Cuppernull

Our location couldn't have been better.
