Monika Lower

Lovely 1-bedroom apartment with mountain views

Stay in Swiss Heartland

The apartment is on the ground floor of the 3-family house in an open part of Meiringen on the edge of farmland. Its quiet residential location seems isolated, yet it is only a 10 minute (flat) walk to the excellent train and bus transport, and to the main shopping street, lined with shops, churches, fine restaurants, entertainment, cafes, bakeries, historic sites and parks of Meiringen. From many directions, the fabled Reichenbach Falls can be seen plunging from the high, snowcapped Wetterhorn Range of Alps to the valley floor. The famed Aare River flows close to the chalet.

The apartment has its own separate entrance and is furnished in a comfortable, modern style for 2 persons. The living room includes satellite TV, DVD, and radio. You will be delighted in the chalet’s many high-end amenities, such as modern kitchen with a 4-burner flat-top stove with oven, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and even granite countertops.

Enjoy the large garden for communal use, outdoor seating (open and covered), games room, garden grill, and children's play area. Washer and dryer are available for guest use at no charge.

WiFi speed as of 6/4/20: 100 Mbps Down/50 Mbps Up

Meiringen, Switzerland - Heartland, Home of Monika Lower

Meiringen, a bustling small town of 5,000, lies in a deep valley surrounded by high mountains, from which drop numerous spectacular waterfalls. Located on one of the most important and centuries-old trade routes through the Alps, Meiringen’s reputation as a tourist center started with Louis Agassiz’s scientific expedition to the Grimsel Pass in the nineteenth century and the coming of the car.

Today, it is the point of origin for more exciting Alpine bus trips than perhaps any town in Europe (Grimsel and Susten Passes, Rosenlaui and Grindelwald.) It is also the starting point for excursions to the famous Aare Gorge, formed during the last Ice Age, and the Reichenbach waterfalls. Michael’s Church is one of the most beautiful concert halls in central Europe and venue for an annual music festival in the summer.

Meiringen offers a great variety of restaurants, 2 large supermarkets, shops of all kinds, banks and ATMs, a fascinating local folk culture museum and excavations of ruins dating back to the first millennium.

If that’s not enough, an amazing number of walks, hikes and climbs originate within 30 minutes of the town and range from easy to challenging.

Meiringen is well situated as a central base for travel throughout Switzerland or as the starting point for excursions into the high Alps of the Bernese Oberland. Hourly rail service on the famed Brunig Pass line connects it in 35 minutes with the resort town of Interlaken and in 90 minutes with the city of Luzern.

"I can't imagine a more wonderful setting for our visit. Meiringen is a lovely town with accessibility to major cities. We went to Lausanne, Montreaux, Lucerne, Bern, Thun and Interlaken (many times), Murren and many points in between. What a great way to experience the cultures of Switzerland!" A. Cain

The availability of wi-fi made it possible for our son-in-law to keep up with his business needs every evening. It made the trip possible for them and they will be back another time.
