FOUNTAIN HOUSE, PERNES-LES-FONTAINES, FRANCE - PROVENCE
The Fountain House is a small two-story cottage located in Pernes-les-Fontaines, a charming town known for its many fountains. The house is just outside the main wall of town, so within easy reach of shops and restaurants. The friendly owners live next door.
The house itself is simple but has everything one would need in a vacation rental. It has an open plan kitchen/dining room/living room on the ground floor. It is furnished in a traditional style, but the kitchen is modern and the apartment does have a TV (French channels only) and Wi-Fi. Up a steep set of spiral stairs are two bedrooms and a bathroom. The larger of the bedrooms has a queen bed and the second bedroom has two twins that can be pushed together if needed. The small bathroom has a shower.
Outside there is an attractive terrace, perfect for enjoying a pleasant morning cup of coffee or a glass of wine in the evening.
The parking situation requires some explanation. The driveway is very narrow and is on a busy street. For this reason, it is necessary to back into the driveway. Backing out into the street is not possible without expert assistance. If a driver does come into the driveway without backing in, Claude, the owner will turn the car around so that it is pointed the right direction to get out. This driveway is only suited for confident drivers who don't mind stopping local traffic in order to park. View a video of the driveway and street here.
Note that interior pictures were taken using a wide-angle lens, making the rooms appear larger than they are.

Pernes-les-Fontaines, France - Provence, Home of Fountain House
As its name suggests, Pernes-les-Fontaines is a town of fountains. The 30-odd fountains scattered throughout the town – varying in size, design and condition – were mostly installed in the late eighteenth century and can be seen as part of a trail that encompasses all of the fountains as well as the town’s historic legacy.
In addition to the fountains, you can walk into the old town center through the fifteenth-century fortified gateway. Trace the remains of the city ramparts. Climb up to the top of the thirteenth-century Ferrande Tower to see frescoes from the period. Drop into the dungeon of the ruins of the ancient Chateau of the Counts of Toulouse. Take refuge under the eighteenth-century covered market, or just take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful town houses, dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Almost every turn through the old town of Pernes-les-Fontaines provides a glimpse of its historic wealth.
A sizeable town with more than 10,000 residents, Pernes-les-Fontaines has all the amenities – banks, bakeries, butcher, supermarkets and other shops – as well as its own outdoor market on Saturdays featuring locally grown produce. There are several well-regarded restaurants in town and the surrounding area..
Located at the northern end of the Vaucluse plateau, Pernes-les-Fontaines offers a wide variety of day-trip possibilities as close as 20 minutes away and as far as 1.5 hours. The Fontaine de Vaucluse, famed source of the Sorgue River, is 15 minutes away, the cities of Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and Nîmes are within a 1-hour drive. Smaller towns and villages like Arles, Orange, St. Rémy and Vaison-la-Romaine are within a 1-hour drive as well. Also, Gigondas, the natural beauty of the Luberon Mountains and villages, the world-famous wine villages of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and the Roman legacies are all easy day trips.
