Inverness, UK - Scottish Highlands, Home of Irving House
Inverness is known as the Highland Capital. With its 47,000 inhabitants, it’s the northernmost city in the UK and an ideal launching point for touring the Northern and Central Highlands. Fortunately, it is also a pleasant city to wander and explore. Bisected by the River Ness flowing from Loch Ness to the south, the city’s numerous church spires dot the riverbank. The city’s center has many shops, restaurants, and pubs along with a Victorian era and a modern shopping mall, either of which prove useful in the event of an unexpected shower. Local residents enjoy the Ness Islands as a tranquil park in the midst of the bustling town.
Traditional music lovers will appreciate the scene in Inverness that includes nightly sessions at the central Hootananny pub. History buffs will enjoy a reflective walk at the Culloden battlefield where one of Scotland’s most important and tragic conflicts took place. The Inverness Museum and Art Gallery will bring anyone up to speed on the region’s natural history along with showcasing the rich cultural background of the Highlands.
Inverness has train connections to the Thurso and Wick in the North; Kyle of Localsh in the West; Aberdeen to the East; and Stirling, Glasgow, Edinburgh, London to the South. Inverness has public buses in many directions. Private tour buses leave from central Inverness for the Isle of Skye, the Whisky Trail, Loch Ness, and other destinations.
Customer comments about Irving House, Inverness, UK - Scottish Highlands
"A wonderful, walking location into Inverness. The flat was clean, well-appointed and sized just right!" David and Betsy Alexander
"I very much enjoyed my stay in Sue and John's lovely apartment. It is beautifully appointed and wonderfully located. The gas fireplace created a warm, cozy atmosphere on chilly evenings. I became a regular at the excellent Heathmount pub/restaurant just down the street. I liked that I could walk into the center of town in less than 10 minutes, but I had the benefit of a quieter neighborhood. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat." Brian Taussig-Lux (Untours President)

An Explanation of the Ratings: The first column of figures is the highest score possible in each category. The column on the far right is the score for this particular apartment in this category. For this set of ratings, we have asked every Untour staff person who has seen the apartment to rate the individual features. Many of these staff people have been in a position to hear reports (good and bad) from customers over the years, so they offer a particularly well-informed perspective. Nevertheless, customer ratings will be included in the overall ratings as soon as possible.
