Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.

Last year we took the Germany Castle Tour.  After our experience last year, we will definitely take another Untour vacation and are happy to see them include the new river cruises.   Prior to taking our UnTours trip, we had taken one bus tour (which my husband vows he will never do again) or had a travel agent assist us with making reservations for hotels, rail passes, etc.  Fortunately we have only had one bad experience with hotels; however, none of us have forgotten!!   We have traveled on our own, but always in areas where we knew English would be spoken.  Unfortunately, when you take these types of trips, you never really visit areas to experience how most people in the country

What is your favorite UnTours memory?

Our favorite memory of our Castle Tour is the wonderful people.  The Baron and his wife were so wonderful and helpful to us.

There were 4 of us in our group, ( Sid is pictured here  with our traveling companions, Jack and Jeanine)  none of us spoke German and in this area there are few people who speak English.  What a wonderful experience we had!!!  When we went into the restaurants and ordered, it was always a surprise. Before the trip was over, we had all learned a few German words.  The language was not a barrier because we were always able to communicate with actions, etc. plus it was a learning experience for all of us.

How is taking an Untour different from other ways of traveling?

UnTours was so helpful in many ways.  We were able to chat online with them at any time prior to the trip and they answered many questions we had.  They sent us maps of the area with directions from the airport and even without a GPS we were never lost.  UnTours has worked with the hosts and hostess to ensure we had knowledgeable personnel available to assist or answer questions which makes you much more comfortable traveling in an unknown area.  The vehicle furnished to us for transportation was just the right size and very economical.  We felt for the first time that we experienced how the rural people in Germany live and staying in the Castle was something you cannot describe.  The tour and history of the Castle by the Baron was one of the highlights of the trip.  Another plus was to see the Baron’s collection of antique cars and see him and his family drive them around the countryside.  I could go on and on, but never be able to put into words the experience.

If you could describe an Untour in just 3 words, what would they be?

Incredible lifetime Memories!!

The Castle Untour in the fall:  Late September and October is some of the most beautiful weather of the year in Bavaria.  It’s not too late to consider a Castle Untour for this year. We have great availabilites in the beautiful Gabriele, and Bird/Butterly  (where the Rueters stayed)  and Carola apartments ,on the second floor of the Castle itself.  Or choose  the Julie, in the newly renovated Manor House on the castle grounds.
