1. Tell us a little bit about your most recent Untour.

All our UnTours have been fabulous, but our favorite was the time we took our children, their spouses and our grandchildren to Kandersteg.

2. Why did you choose to go there?

We wanted to share our favorite memories with our children. Plus, Switzerland has such a fantastic transportation system. It is very easy for large groups to get around easily.

3. What is your favorite UnTours memory?

There are so many. Sitting on a bench in Bacharach and finding out that the couple next to us had lived in New Canaan, CT, also. Spending a Sunday in Giessbach having lunch and hiking. That day we were on a lake boat, rode a funicular, and the kids ended the day on paddle boats on Lake Brienz. The kind hotel owner at the Victoria Ritter in Kandersteg who invited the four grandchildren to watch the video of Shrek. It was August of 2005 and Switzerland was having torrential rains. It even washed out the train tracks and there was no rail service for several days. But the absolute best was the constant smiles on our children’s and grandchildren’s faces.

4. How is taking an Untour different from other ways of travelling?

We enjoy being independent, but love knowing that back up is always available. The Dream Book helped us plan our trips and orientation was always very interesting.

5. If you could describe an Untour in just three words, what would they be?

Organic travel, simplified. [Attributed to my grandson]

6. Have you heard of our trailblazing UnTours Foundation? What do you think of a company whose profits have gone to create jobs among vulnerable populations through loans to pioneering, green businesses?

It is a business model that more should emulate.
