Sonia
Born and raised in Vinaros, Valencia, on Spain's beautiful Mediterranean coast, Sonia's passion for traveling and experiencing new cultures led her to move to the Dominican Republic in 2017. She's lived in various places across the island, but it was Las Terrenas, a charming coastal town, that truly captured her heart and became her home. She describes herself as "a curious person that loves to connect with people around the world."
Since joining UnTours in 2024, Sonia has delighted in "surprising people with local secret spots." Her deep love for local culture and curiosity to uncover hidden gems naturally led her to become an UnGuide, taking great joy in sharing this "paradise" with others and showing them authentic experiences that go beyond typical tourist paths.
Like her colleague Shaina, Sonia highlights the "stunning nature with amazing beaches and palm mountains" as the top feature of her destination. She recommends visiting "a secret beach between playa Ballenas and playa Bonita that you access through a small hike with stunning views." For special events, she points to "the whale season in Samana region" which "happens between January and March and it is absolutely beautiful to watch the whales in their natural space."
To help visitors blend in with locals, Sonia suggests "learning some of the Dominican slang like 'keloke' that people use to greet each other." And she echoes Shaina's sentiment about the region's remarkable sunsets: "Sunsets in Las Terrenas are stunning and worth it to look for a good spot to enjoy it with a Presidente."
