I stumbled upon a film trailer about four young US men, who spent a summer in Guatemala trying to live on a dollar a day.
At first I thought, “Well, that doesn’t really count. They knew their situation was only temporary.” Then, Hurricane Sandy took out the power in my neighborhood, and most of my neighbors have moved out until the power comes back on. So, now I think these young men are to be commended! Any amount of time we “do without” stretches us, if we are so willing. (Meanwhile, I’m in the nice warm Untours office with my hot tea and Internet!)
These same young men have produced several short videos on their experiences including a 4-minute video on microlending that has all the basics.
And how does the Untours Foundation differ from standard microlending? Our interest rates are lower than most AND the projects we fund have to be “green.”
100% of donations to our work go into our loan fund.
