Join me in charming Rudesheim on the Rhine, an easy day trip from our German Rhine UnTour. With its vineyard-covered hills, distant castles, and narrow cobbled lanes and courtyards, it is one darling town. So cute, in fact, that we often bring our UnTour guests there for a special tour of the museums in town. Including one of our favorites.
Welcome to Siegfried’s Musical Cabinet, a jewel of a tiny museum filled with vintage and historical musical instruments and elaborate machines with moving figures.
Boutique music boxes fill display cases. These beauties are still made locally and are available for purchase, though they are as precious in price as they are in appearance.
The museum is visited by a guided tour, and charming docents demonstrate the instruments, including old, ornate organs and other musical machines that were wondrously high tech for their time.
Don’t forget to look up at the beautifully decorated ceilings. Every inch of this small museum is interesting and ornate, a real feast for the eyes.
The musical machines include moving figures that are richly whimsical. This small family-owned museum is a must see stop in this part of the Rhine.
Afterwards, stroll the narrow lanes of town or hike up into the surrounding vineyards. You can visit easily from your UnTours homebase on the German Rhine UnTour. Enjoy!
