This is not your typical vacation rental! You will be living in a fourteenth-century castle in a small village in Franconian Bavaria, along the famous Romantic Road, about 20 minutes from Ansbach. This picturesque castle enjoys a bucolic setting and is surrounded by a moat and system of ponds inhabited by ducks, fish, and swans.

The private Giselle vacation rental is on the second floor and includes a bedroom with combined twin beds, private bath with shower stall (newly remodeled in 2021), and a living room with a small kitchenette suitable for preparing light meals. It offers wonderful views of the castle moat and chapel. It is equipped with hair dryer, telephone, TV (cable), CD player, coffeemaker, convection oven and dishwasher.

The castle has been in the same family since the sixteenth century, and your gracious hosts will give you a personally guided tour.

It is only a 20-minute drive to Ansbach, which is the nearest train station and a fairly large city. A 5-minute drive takes you to a grocery store that carries just about everything you will need, including a bakery, butcher, and prepared food section. You are also a short drive to a variety of restaurants in the area. The castle has a pool table in the banquet room and bikes to rent in the barn. A horse farm is just down the road. A golf course and tennis courts are also nearby.

All castle apartments have Wi-Fi, although the signal can be spotty due to the thick castle walls.

Ansbach District, Germany - Castle, Home of Giselle

The castle and Bohemian House dominate the tiny village of Sommersdorf. You are in a rural setting in a small town but not far from the larger towns of Dinkelsbühl, Rothenberg and Ansbach. Sommersfdorf has a guesthouse right outside of the castle grounds that serves hearty food and spirits and has a true local and friendly feel.

An organic farm that borders the castle grounds sells some of their products from a small stand each week, and there is a horse farm right down the road. As you bike around Sommersdorf you will see lots of farms in the area and a few small stores for baked goods and some small provisions. The Edeka grocery store, a 5-minute drive from the castle, has just about everything you will need for your stay, including a butcher, bakery, prepared foods, wine and beer. The next town, less than 3 miles from the castle, has a bank with ATM, post office and the Krone guest house, which has good food.

Sommersdorf is situated in the area of Franconian Bavaria called the "Altmühltal." The Altmühl is a small river just south of the castle, which meanders to the Danube. In the summer there is canoeing on the Altmühl as well as hiking and biking trails. Golf and tennis are nearby. From the castle you are only a half-hour to Ansbach, which is the nearest train station and a fairly large city. You are always a short drive to a variety of restaurants in the area.

The castle has an in-ground pool with beautiful gardens, pool table in the banquet room and bikes to rent in the barn . Golf and tennis can be arranged nearby. There are 3 artificial lakes within a short drive of the castle that encompass a bird sanctuary and offer extensive recreational facilities for boaters, windsurfers and swimmers.
