Stay in Provence
Set in the heart of Pernes-les-Fontaines, La Maison Fontaine is a historic 18th-century café-theatre turned welcoming village home. With its stone walls, generous rooms, and playful mix of history and comfort, it’s the kind of place where families and friends instantly feel at ease. Six bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a spacious three-floor layout make it ideal for gathering, while thoughtful details like bookshelves filled with French and English titles, games for every age, and a terrace with rooftop views of Mont Ventoux, invite you to slow down and savor each moment.
The house blends Provençal charm with modern indulgences: an indoor heated pool and sauna for true relaxation, a terrace perfect for lingering over wine and barbecues, and cozy corners that make the home feel both expansive and intimate. Step outside and you’re surrounded by the fountains, markets, and café life of Pernes, with Avignon, the Luberon, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape all within easy reach. It’s a house for laughter, connection, and long, unhurried days in the very heart of Provence.

Pernes-les-Fontaines, France - Provence, Home of La Maison Fontaine
As its name suggests, Pernes-les-Fontaines is a town of fountains. The 30-odd fountains scattered throughout the town – varying in size, design and condition – were mostly installed in the late eighteenth century and can be seen as part of a trail that encompasses all of the fountains as well as the town’s historic legacy.
In addition to the fountains, you can walk into the old town center through the fifteenth-century fortified gateway. Trace the remains of the city ramparts. Climb up to the top of the thirteenth-century Ferrande Tower to see frescoes from the period. Drop into the dungeon of the ruins of the ancient Chateau of the Counts of Toulouse. Take refuge under the eighteenth-century covered market, or just take a stroll and enjoy the beautiful town houses, dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Almost every turn through the old town of Pernes-les-Fontaines provides a glimpse of its historic wealth.
A sizeable town with more than 10,000 residents, Pernes-les-Fontaines has all the amenities – banks, bakeries, butcher, supermarkets and other shops – as well as its own outdoor market on Saturdays featuring locally grown produce. There are several well-regarded restaurants in town and the surrounding area..
Located at the northern end of the Vaucluse plateau, Pernes-les-Fontaines offers a wide variety of day-trip possibilities as close as 20 minutes away and as far as 1.5 hours. The Fontaine de Vaucluse, famed source of the Sorgue River, is 15 minutes away, the cities of Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and Nîmes are within a 1-hour drive. Smaller towns and villages like Arles, Orange, St. Rémy and Vaison-la-Romaine are within a 1-hour drive as well. Also, Gigondas, the natural beauty of the Luberon Mountains and villages, the world-famous wine villages of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, and the Roman legacies are all easy day trips.
