Stay in Umbria
Once a shepherd’s house, the Maria is a charming country vacation rental on a lovely farm between Trevi and Spoleto. Its living area combines living room, dining and kitchen facilities. The fireplace is the room’s focal point. On the ground floor you will find a bedroom with 2 separate twin beds and a full bathroom. Up a set of steep backless spiral stairs, you will find the master bedroom, with an Italian queen-sized bed and en suite bathroom.
This vacation rental is located on a farm owned and run by the Zappelli family. Wanda and her 3 daughters speak some English and are warm and friendly hosts. The grounds are lovely, filled with flowers and herbs in season. The original cobblestone walkways that cut through the property can be uneven in spots. The farm has harvested olives for generations. A swimming pool is on the property, tucked in among the olive trees. Trevi is 10 minutes away, Spoleto is a 30-minute drive, and Assisi and other hill towns are easy day trips. Other vacation rentals on the same site include Sara and Alessandra.

Trevi, Italy - Umbria, Home of Maria
Our Trevi-area apartments are located in the countryside, outside of town, a 5-minute drive away. Trevi is a beautiful, sleepy little town with a hometown feel. Ringed with olive groves, Trevi rises above the convenient Via Flamminia, just 30 minutes north of Spoleto and 30 minutes south of Assisi. In town, you can visit a modest painting gallery and the Church of St. Francis. The small Flash Museum hosts cutting edge, international art exhibits – an unlikely bit of avant-garde in a quiet Umbrian hill town. The town is lovely, with a lively piazza and numerous small produce and grocery shops, cafés, barbershops and a small selection of good restaurants and coffee bars.
Nearby Spoleto is a beautiful town that dates back to Roman times. Sites there include an ancient Roman theater, the Duomo, the castle and museums of archeology, sacred art and modern art. Because of its annual performing arts festival, it has a cosmopolitan feel, with good shopping and a nice selection of restaurants.
Umbria is often called Italy’s “Green Heart,” making the beautiful area around Spoleto the perfect base for a 2-week stay. The rugged Umbrian hills give way to sweeping views of olive groves. And the small towns carry on, unchanged by time, and largely undiscovered by American tourists.
The Trevi-area apartments are about 5 minutes south of town and about a 25-minute drive north of Spoleto. Assisi is about a 25-minute drive and Perugia is about 45 minutes away. By express train, Rome is about 90 minutes away.
Location
Landlord
This farm is one of our most popular sites in Italy, mainly because of the warmth and hospitality of the its owners, the Zappelli family. Wanda and her 3 adult daughters live on the farm and work hard running it. They are lovely people and gracious, caring hosts. They all speak some English and welcome guests as if they were family. Our Umbrian UnTour staff person is always available by cell phone if guests have problems or concerns. Please note the farm will no longer offer meal service as in past years.

Here's what our guests have to say
Pam Werner
The apartment was wonderful. The hosts were nice. They had a nice supply of food, much of it from their garden stocked upon our arrival. They also baked us a delicious cake. We admired how hard working they appeared.
Barbara Bynum
The apartment cottages were lovely, offered all the privacy one might wish, and, in addition, were fully supplied with whatever one might need. We were totally delighted by the fresh produce provided in the welcome supplies from Mama Wanda's garden.

The Maria apt. in Umbria brings back memories of walking through a secluded flowering courtyard and a hillside of olive trees in the distance. Inside, the apt. was very Euro-efficient with even a dish drain rack cleverly designed inside the beautiful hand made wood cabinets. The fireplace made it cozy and inviting.
Keith & Ann Lallman
The setting, adjacent buildings, hanging grape vines, potted flowers, even the driveway was charming. We think anyone would love this place.

In early spring I was lucky enough to stay at the Maria apt. in Umbria , a picturesque stucco set of farmhouses that are surrounded by budding almond and olive trees. I enjoyed the lovely mountains and hills from the many views of the spacious accommodations. I would just fling open a window and snap dozens of photographs of the gardens, flowers, and rolling countryside. This place is Umbria!

It was all great.
