Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages

Nairobi

Your Stay at Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages

The Karen Blixen Museum was once the centerpiece of a farm at the foot of the Ngong Hills, owned by the Danish Author Karen and her Swedish Husband, Baron Bror von Blixen-Finecke. Located 10 km from the city centre, the Museum belongs to a different period in Kenya's history. The farmhouse gained international fame with the release of the movie ‘Out of Africa’, an Oscar-winning film based on Karen’s autobiography by the same title.

It sits on five acres of land, featuring large, hundred-year-old trees, beautiful gardens, a diverse array of blooming flowers, and a large population of birds. It is a short walk to the Karen Blixen Museum, affording easy access to the popular David Sheldrick Elephant and Rhino Orphanage, the Giraffe Centre, and Nairobi National Park, where you can spot big game like lions and rhinos against the city skyline.

About Nairobi

Nairobi is the capital of Kenya and East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city, with a vibrant population of 4.5 million. Unique to the city is the proximity of Nairobi National Park, a true wilderness area juxtaposed against the larger urban metropolis. It is the only national park of its kind in the world and a real embodiment of the human-wildlife conflicts that challenge many African communities, who must learn to coexist with wildlife on their doorstep.

Nairobi National Park is one of the best places in Africa to see rhinos and also boasts a healthy population of lions, leopards, cheetahs, and plains game, including giraffes and antelopes. Other attractions include the Karen Blixen Museum, the Giraffe Center, Daphne Sheldrick’s Elephant Orphanage, a visit to a tea farm, and shopping for local crafts and trinkets. There are numerous excellent local and cross-cultural restaurants to explore, ranging from roadside food stalls to traditional nyama choma (barbecue joints) and five-star dining establishments.
