Chalet Suter

Traditional and comfortable 2nd floor apartment in Kandersteg

Stay in Swiss Oberland

The Chalet Suter apartment with its traditional Swiss feel can accommodate up to 4 people comfortably. It is located in the beautiful alpine village of Kandersteg. Stores, restaurants and the busy Kandersteg rail station are all within a flat five- to ten-minute walk.

The living area is light-filled with plenty of comfortable seating and offers a separate dining area, and a nicely equipped kitchen. The two south-facing windows in the living area open up to a view of the garden, some neighboring chalets and the imposing rock face of Biberg. The outdoor space lends itself to enjoying the views. Kandersteg, Switzerland - Oberland, Home of Chalet Suter

Kandersteg UnTourists reach their village by a railway that features a spectacular climb through the Kander Valley to this surprisingly large plateau at almost 4,000 feet. The train ride to Kandersteg from Thun is fascinating, passing through 2 tunnels between Frutigen and Kandersteg where the train reverses directions completely to gain altitude by spiraling inside the mountain.

Kandersteg is a village of about 1,000 people with no fewer than 30 restaurants!

Lying at the foot of the rugged escarpments that frame the snow-capped peaks of the Blumlisalp to the east and dip into a green Alpine basin, Kandersteg is best known for its location at the north end of the Lotschberg tunnel. Thanks to the tunnel, residents and visitors alike have access to the valley of Lotschental, which has kept its unique Alpine traditions, perhaps more than any other region in Switzerland. Kandersteg offers 3 lifts to surrounding peaks in the summer, banks, ATMs and a supermarket.

Kandersteg is also the center for a new kind of hang gliding called paragliding, which is really more parachuting than hang gliding, safer than either and easily learned. Although Kandersteg is a paradise for hikers, it can be enjoyed by non-hikers as well.

Here's what our guests have to say

★★★★★

The apartment was beautifully appointed with lovely bedding already made and ready for us, unlimited quantity of towels, soap, toilet tissue ...just fabulous. We especially loved the village of Kandersteg. We could simply sit for lengthy periods of time on park benches and stare at the mountains - breath the incredibly clean air, watch the hang gliders - simply enjoy being.

Chalet Suter was perfect for us. Only a few minutes from the train station. Our chalet was beautiful and our landlady, Frau Suter, was a very gracious host. I will definitely return to Chalet Andreas!
