Kuenzler 1

Spacious, modern apartment

Stay in Swiss Heartland

Künzler 1 vacation rental in the village of Hohfluh has consistently been among our most popular apartments. The apartment is spacious and cheerful, with high ceilings and large windows, permitting sunlight to flood the living room and the glass-enclosed sun porch. The apartment features two bedrooms, each with its own full bath en suite, quite a rarity in Switzerland. The kitchen is modern and very well equipped. The lovely, English-speaking landlady and her daughter reside next door.

The Künzler 1 is located on the main street of Hohfluh, but traffic on this Alpine road is light and the over-planted garden acts as a sound buffer. The house is an easy one-minute walk from the bus stop and village grocery. Two full-service restaurants are within a ten-minute walk. More restaurants are found in nearby Brünig or the neighboring Alpine villages. The only bank/ATM on the Hasliberg is found in Wasserwendi, just a few bus minutes away. Postal buses connect Hohfluh with the rail station at Brünig Pass.

WiFi speed as of 10/28/21: 100 Mbps Down/100 Mbps Up

Hohfluh, Switzerland - Heartland, Home of Kuenzler 1

The Hasliberg, a mountain, is also the name of a community made up of 4 villages: Hohfluh, Wasserwendi, Goldern and Reuti. They share one local government, one mayor, one tourist office, one community center and one bank. It is not clear exactly when the mountain was first settled, but the area developed a unique culture and personality over many centuries. In some ways, the inhabitants lived in splendid isolation, which perhaps explains why these 4 small villages appear to be right out of “Heidi.” A casual stroll through any one reveals beautiful old chalets, immaculate gardens and gentle hints of a way of life from long ago.

The Hasliberg is best described as a hiker’s paradise, with the greatest variety and concentration of outstanding walks and hikes in the Heartland. There is a wonderful walk for families with children created around the stories of “Muggestutz,” a Hasliberg dwarf. Each of the villages has at least one or two good restaurants and small grocery stores supplying basic needs, and Hofhluh also features a fine little bakery.

The post bus connects the 4 villages with the Brunig train station, which offers hourly service to the famed Bernese Oberland resort of Interlaken (45 minutes west) and the city of Luzern (75 minutes north.) An aerial tramway connects Reuti with Meiringen down in the valley every 30 minutes. Cable cars also connect Reuti to higher locations on the Hasliberg (gondolas to Kaserstatt, Bidmi, Magisalp and Planplatten.)

There is a certain amount of street traffic, which is more audible in Kunzler 1 than Kunzler 2. HOWEVER, it's not a big deal. Margrit Kunzler is well known to be a spectacular host. Her English is excellent, and although we rarely have any additional needs, she responds immediately when we have a problem.

This was the most spacious and well-eqipped apartment I had ever stayed in.

★★★★★

We felt the apartment was excellent & our landlady and her daughter were exceptional! They were so pleasant, congenial & helpful. In addition, they were so generous to our family & even gave our children a gift and candy for the trip home. The only item I would have preferred to have available in the kitchen was a microwave.

Kathryn Johnston

★★★★★

I really would not want to stay anywhere else as I love to hike & could do so right out the back door. (Before the day's excursion.) Margrit is wonderful and the apartment comfortable & charming.

The location is perfect - incredible view, close to transporation. Loved the little store across the street. But please let people know that traffic noise is an issue, until 10 pm some evenings.

Margrit Künzler's apt. is really a 10-star home away from home. She is most wonderful too. We have found our new home on the Hasliberg.

We loved the Künzler apartment. Beautifully and tastefully decorated, had everything we needed plus more. The Künzler family was wonderful to us! We felt as though we were visiting friends.

Rod & Jane Fisher

★★★★★

Very clean everywhere and well-equipped kitchen. Some period charm, just needed more reading lamps everywhere and perhaps a comfortable sofa in living room instead of a single bed. Lovely sunroom was a welcome plus.

William & Ann Ruth

★★★★★

Margrit Künzler was exceptionally good to us. She not only washed our clothes, she ironed them! She drove us to Meiringen twice. She had us to her home for dinner. She is the best!

We wanted a small village setting in the Alps and that is what we experienced.
