Birgit

Vienna UnGuide - Austria

Born alongside her twin sister Claudia in a beautiful medieval town in Lower Austria called Waidhofen/Ybbs, Birgit grew up surrounded by nature, mountains, and crystal-clear water. After completing her education in economics and public relations, she moved to Vienna, where she has built a rich professional life that now includes a decade with Caritas, the world's largest social organization. "Every day, I have the opportunity to support people in need in various ways," she shares, "and the innovative, meaningful projects we undertake bring me great fulfillment." Birgit's collaboration with UnTours dates back to around 1995, when she and her father supported her sister Claudia, who was the main UnGuide in Vienna at that time. A passionate appreciator of Vienna's cultural offerings, Birgit describes herself as someone who "really enjoys all the art and culture in Vienna and Austria in general" and loves "cooking for family and friends" and "organizing social events, where people can get together, become new friends and support each other."

What she enjoys most about her role is "showing our UnTourists my place so they see it through the eyes of a local, sharing stories with them." She notes that "UnTours, as its name describes, is not just one more travel agency. UnTours creates very special personal tours up to the wishes and demands of the clients, so it is absolutely unique!" Her guests are "mostly very well prepared for their stay in Vienna, they are usually really interested in art, culture and history."

Among Vienna's highlights, Birgit points to "the marvelous concert halls and the Opera, as well as the castles like Belvedere and Schรถnbrunn and Hofburg." She also takes pride in "the top class quality water that we have as it comes directly from the mountains, crystal clear and clean. So you can drink it right from the tap." For those seeking hidden gems, she recommends visiting the wine villages surrounding Vienna or catching a sunset at the Old Danubeโ€”places "you will not find so much in tourist guides."
