Helen

Florence UnGuide - Italy

With a fascinating international background, Helen brings a unique perspective to her role as Florence UnGuide. Scottish by heritage and raised in Perth, she was born in India and holds Australian citizenship, having lived in Sydney before settling in Florence. Since 2016, Helen has been guiding UnTourists through the cobblestone streets of her adopted city. "Having raised my family here, I feel I have insider knowledge," she shares, "so I love sharing information about Florence and Florentines that our guests are unlikely to find in a guidebook." Her greatest satisfaction comes when guests follow through on her suggestions and return with enthusiasm. Helen particularly enjoys chatting with UnTourists about their own hometowns in the US, creating connections that span continents. Her favorite highlight? The Vasari Corridor—"an incredible 16th century feat of architecture and engineering that never ceases to amaze me. It's a kilometre-long gallery that took only a few months to build."
