Julia
Born in Minori, a small town on the Amalfi Coast, Julia considers herself fortunate to have grown up in "this small famous and sought-after coast, where natural scenery, nestled architecture and tasty local products have made me and many others fall in love before and after." Though her studies and work initially took her far from home, she eventually "listened to my heart, eager to return to enhance and make the coast (my land) more appreciated."
In 2021, Julia's journey led her to Rossella, who has been collaborating with UnTours since 2009. Together, they joined the UnGuide project, and Julia describes herself as "a sunny person who likes to welcome guests and talk about different things." She finds joy in "showing the UnTourists some hidden gems so they see it through the eyes of a local, amaze them with stories of our land and simplify their choice of excursions during their stay."
Julia embraces a deeply personal approach to hospitality: "I love to open my heart to our guests with the warmth of the typical hospitality of southern Italy, welcoming them as if they are uncles from far away who have been missing for a long time and had arrived back, so make them feel at home."
When asked about her destination highlights, she shares, "My top highlight is visiting Ravello. I love as well doing a tour by boat to reach Positano, Minori or Capri." For hidden gems, Julia recommends "In Amalfi, taking an elevator to reach out a beautiful point of view from the top (usually used to reach the local houses) and enjoy the incredible Amalfitan landscape. Have a drink inside of two different beautiful hotels to get to see the ancient cloisters inside (one founded by San Francesco d'Assisi)."
Julia is enthusiastic about the region's seasonal celebrations, particularly during Christmas when "between December 22nd and January 6th the streets have colored lights and the nativity scenes come to life." She also highlights Easter's "evocative procession on Good Friday where the whole town is in darkness," and the Regatta of the Ancient Maritime Republics, a historical re-enactment with rowing crews competing on galleons.
What she wishes more people knew about her region? "About Atrani, it is the smallest village in Italy! And it has been chosen as set for many films. About Amalfi, that it was the first Marinary republic in Italy, when there were written many laws on navigation which are still in use nowadays."
