Majella

County Kerry UnGuide - Ireland

From the beautiful area of Kilgarvan in County Kerry, Ireland, Majella joined UnTours in 2024, bringing over 30 years of experience in the hospitality and tourism sector. "I am an outgoing, chatty, friendly person who loves to meet people & get to know them," she shares. "I love people to learn some of our Irish speaking phrases, have a good laugh as it's the best medicine & be helpful to others." Majella takes great pleasure in "learning people's backgrounds, their interests & how I can help make some of those things a reality whilst here." She adds, "I get to meet new people from so many different areas & I've always had a huge interest in where people are from & what their home places are like. We get to chat a lot on so many things."

Her favorite highlight is the initial orientation meeting followed by a visit to Molly Gallivan's, "which is an activity we include on your stay. A lovely farm walk, talk from the owner on our wonderful Irish history, followed by traditional music & food. I love to see how our guests enjoy it & the interaction & camaraderie we all have." When it comes to hidden gems, Majella notes that "There are some lovely hidden gems throughout the Ring of Beara, Ring of Kerry & not so far from the accommodation that the guests stay in. The beauty of staying in a local place like Kenmare is that there is something new to learn & see every day from local strolls by the river & sea scape to discovering mythological standing stones & stone circles."

For visitors hoping to blend in with locals, she advises that "people tip in restaurants, hairdressers, taxi etc if one feels it's deserved for good service" and encourages visitors to engage with local musicians—"if in a local pub with music & singing, feel free to ask any musician to join in the more the merrier." Her affection for her home is evident when she shares that "my local town Kenmare is full of color, bright painted buildings, lots of history & an all round friendly place. I moved back near Kenmare after a time away because I always knew it is a special place. Néidin (Irish word for Nest) is what Kenmare is known as in the native Irish language. Nestled & surrounded by beautiful hills, valleys & Kenmare Bay."
