Moe
Born and raised in Dunblane near Stirling in Central Scotland, Moe brings a lifetime of cultural interchange and travel experiences to her role as an UnGuide. Her journey with travel began in childhood when her parents encouraged "pen-friends" with children from abroad. "Receiving hand-written envelopes with foreign postal stamps was exciting, and inspired thoughts of travel adventures," she recalls. After studying languages and Teaching English as a Second Language, her career led her to teaching posts in Austria, Japan, and at the University of Stirling, followed by roles in Publicity and Media Relations that involved travel-related projects across many countries.
Moe describes herself as "a glass full, people-person who enjoys meeting new friends and a big travel fan." She began with UnTours as backup holiday cover in 2023 and happily stayed on, finding deep satisfaction in sharing her homeland with visitors. "I like showing people around my home town and advising of places to visit with the best travel options," she says. She especially enjoys helping American visitors discover their Scottish ancestry—"it's fun helping them find out about their 'clan' (family) links."
When asked about highlights of her region, Moe proudly names two: Dunblane Cathedral, "special as it's a huge building for such a small place—it's very plain with a simple stone interior and great acoustics," and nearby Stirling Castle, which she believes "definitely competes with Edinburgh Castle." Among her recommended hidden gems is a drive over Sherriffmuir, "scenic high open moorland, with fantastic views to Stirling Castle, The Wallace Monument, and the Forth Valley"—complete with fascinating history about the 1715 battle that ended in a draw. For travelers wanting to experience local culture, Moe recommends the annual Edinburgh Festivals in August or the Highland Games throughout summer, featuring traditional Scottish competitions including Highland dancing, pipe bands, and tossing the caber.
