1. Tell us a little bit about your most recent UnTour.
Our most recent UnTour was at the Hastalska apartment in the Jewish Quarter in Prague. This was a great location for exploring the city both on foot and by public transportation. The apartment was delightful, well furnished and equipped, and we enjoyed the small courtyard outside our door.
2. Why did you choose to go there?
We had never been to the Czech Republic and family and friends had highly recommended this magnificent city.
3. What is your favorite UnTours memory?
Every UnTour experience has been memorable; it is hard to pick a favorite. Our three trips to the Heartland stand out, in large part because of our hosts Berit and Albert. We looked forward every year to the festivals, our favorite hikes, discovering new hikes, markets, etc. In 2008 we spent 6 weeks in Italy – Rome, Umbria, and Venice. Each location was unique but for us Venice will always be a favorite. Venice is such a magical city – nothing else like it in the world. There were four of us traveling together and we stayed in the Domus apartment, which had a wonderful location. The spontaneous concerts, the churches, the art, and especially St. Mark’s Square in the evening are all vivid memories. This was our second trip to Venice and certainly hope it was not the last.
4. How is taking an UnTour different from other ways of travelling?
Living like a local has to be the most special aspect of UnTour travel. Meeting the local business people and residents, the spontaneity of attending concerts and festivals, setting your own schedule and the opportunity to buy and fix local foods are all major differences from packaged tours.
5. If you could describe an UnTour in just three words, what would they be?
Independence, spontaneous, meaningful
