We receive lots of requests for support at the foundation. Most requests just aren’t green enough or don’t generate employment among vulnerable populations. And then there are those projects that we really do want to invest in, but they, too, don’t quite fit our model. One was a film called “Future Weather” by Jenny Deller….

Jim & Dawna plan their 25th: Part Two
Jim & Dawna are celebrating their 25th anniversary next year and UnTours is proud to be helping them to gather family and friends in Siena, Italy for the occasion. They’ll be occasional guest bloggers this year, letting us eavesdrop on the challenges and delights of organizing a “big trip.” This is their second post so…
Untourists of the Week….go further: Jim & Dawna’s excellent adventure
Today and tomorrow, we feature a little variation on the UnTourist of the Week theme. Jim Moore and Dawna Warren were featured on this blog earlier this year. (And can offer only these quite blurry photos of themselves. Their excuse? They say they are too busy appreciating where they are to get better photos of…
Monday Memories: Running into a friend in Amsterdam
Good Monday to you! Today is the first in a new series of posts around here we’re calling Monday Memories. These posts will be very short and sweet: nothing but a fun, memorable travel pic and a brief description of it. We all have fond memories of our travels and I thought it would be…
Foundation Fridays: Meet Brian Taussig-Lux!
Brian directs UnTours with his friendly, laid back, methodical style. He’s also one of our foundation’s board members. Of the many things I could add in my mini-intro, I have to take advantage of my “Speaker’s Corner” to praise Brian for being in that minority of men, who add their spouse’s last name to their…
This Week’s Guest Blog: Susan Umberger (in Venice)
Woops, we were a little topsy-turvy this week. Our excerpts of Susan Umberger’s delightful account of her Venice-Tuscany UnTour Sampler came to you backwards, as she was in Venice (today’s entry) first, and Tuscany (last week’s entry)afterwards . But you can read her entire triplog here, in the proper order! My husband and I arrived…
Foundation Fridays: Meet Kate Wendland Duncan!
Photo taken at Grounds for Sculpture Kate has worn many hats at UnTours from foundation board member to expert editor for many of us. She succeeded in describing UnTours and its foundation beautifully and in under 100 words for the packaging of Equal Exchange’s coffee: Hal’s Blend. Quite a feat! Though she’s moving onto a…
Untour Guestblogger of the Week: Susan Umberger on a Venice-Tuscany Untour Sampler
Excerpts from Susan Umberger’s: Easter in Tuscany April 2011. Susan has kindly offered to let us excerpt some of her Italian wanderings from 2011. If you like this, see more here. We made the long drive from Venice to Buonconvento not without a couple of incidents—getting lost in Florence (what a crazy city to drive in!)…
Untourists of the Week: Rebecca and Eric Houghton
Tell us a little bit about your most recent UnTour. We combined two fascinating destinations into a marvelous, once-in-a-life time adventure. We began with two weeks in the old-section of Istanbul (as the first-ever Istanbul UnTourists) and concluded with a week in a wonderful apartment in Venice. What made you choose these particular destinations?A dozen years…
