Oaxaca historical center, Mexico - Home of Casa Catrina

The whole historical center of Oaxaca de Juarez is in conjunction with Monte Alban archaeological site, UNESCO World Heritage and the area where most of things happen in the city. The lively atmosphere is contagious in every corner and it will make you feel like a local and just walking around the city and getting lost in the different inside patios and little art galleries and shops is a highlight already. The historical center is home as well to Santo Domingo temple, built in 1608 and considered one of the most beautiful convents in the whole country due to the chapel of Rosario from inside and the spectacular golden details in the main staircase. On a different note, there are a few local markets, where it definitely the 20th of November stands out. In this local market, you will find the Oaxacans doing their daily shopping and besides that, you'll be able to find the most interesting spices and you'll be able to indulge yourself in one of the food courts of the smoke street (The corridor where all the grills are. Absolutely spectacular) and try different dishes of the Oaxacan cuisine, like the famous Tlayudas.

The historical center is 10 minutes taxi drive from the main ADO bus station (The cost from the ADO bus station to the apartment should be around 50 MXN pesos or the equivalent of 3-4 USD)

In addition to its historical and religious landmarks, the historical center of Oaxaca de Juarez is also known for its restaurants. You will be able to find a wide range of dining options, from the most traditional cuisine in a little cafe to international restaurants and even fancy restaurants with colorful decorations. What it is a common element is the quality of the food and the variety of regional dishes, which your UnGuide will let you know so you can get to experience the unique Oaxacan cuisine to its fullest.
